Maps of species' distributions or habitat suitability are required for many aspects of environmental research, resource management and conservation planning. These include biodiversity assessment, reserve design, habitat management and restoration, species and habitat conservation plans and predicting the effects of environmental change on species and ecosystems. The proliferation of methods and uncertainty regarding their effectiveness can be daunting to researchers, resource managers and conservation planners alike. Franklin summarises the methods used in species distribution modeling (also called niche modeling) and presents a framework for spatial prediction of species distributions based on the attributes (space, time, scale) of the data and questions being asked. The framework links theoretical ecological models of species distributions to spatial data on species and environment, and statistical models used for spatial prediction. Providing practical guidelines to students, researchers and practitioners in a broad range of environmental sciences including ecology, geography, conservation biology, and natural resources management.

Prominent Ashville citizen Franklin Kenny announced his bid for mayor. Unfortunately, several people wish him dead. If he dies, will it be by the hand of his alcohol-abusing, pill-popping wife; by his wife's erotomanic, delusional, grocery-bag boy; by their multiple-personality grounds keeper; by the security agent assigned to their household; by Mr. Kenny's powerful senator father-in-law; or by their commanding housekeeper? Maybe diary entries can reveal the truth. Diary entries, however, may confound reality, especially when people's minds frequently black out or grossly distort reality.
Grant Franklin is a divorced father of two girls, living in Sacramento, California. As a sales manager for a major sporting goods manufacturer, he travels the eleven western states to make a living. While on a trip across northern Nevada, he is informed via a phone call from the Sacramento Police Department, that his ex-wife and eldest daughter have been murdered in their beds by apparent burglars. His youngest daughter clings to life in a Sacramento hospital. The police catch the two directly responsible for the deaths, but due to an overzealous cop, the two are released because of an illegal search. The next morning, the two killers are found executed in a burned out car. The police seem t...
The following is the true account of the tragic 1978 expedition into the jungles of Bali: by Professor of Anthropology, Jonathon Sartre, and his team members. As there are no known witnesses to the events depicted in this dramatization, speculation of the events that transpired comes from sourced documents, the University’s Student Register, and the only known record of events upon reaching their destination, the journal of Professor Sartre…

Calling on seventy-five years of memories and lessons learned, Emilie Griffin reflects on the beauty and struggle of aging. Hers is a deceptively simple spiritual path--motivated only by a desire to be close to the Lord. Ideal for both individuals and discussion groups.
