Avances en Psiquiatría Desde un Modelo Biopsicosocial
Algunas de las ideas, teorías y avances más interesantes de las últimas décadas en las ciencias básicas y en la medicina convergen en el campo de la salud mental. La psiquiatría, como rama de la medicina que aborda este tema, se encuentra en una posición a la vez privilegiada y difícil. Por un lado, puede integrar los hallazgos de las neurociencias y la biología molecular en el tratamiento de pacientes con trastornos mentales. Por otro, se enfrenta a fenómenos clínicos complejos y heterogéneos, donde los signos y síntomas que fundamentan otras especialidades médicas son imprescindibles, pero insuficientes muchas veces. A esto se suma la dimensión social, presente en todas las áreas médicas, pero tal vez más incisiva cuando se trata de las enfermedades mentales.
Meanings and Functions of the Ruler's Image in the Mediterranean World (11th – 15th Centuries)
(The open access version of this book has been published with the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation.) The book proposes a reassessment of royal portraiture and its function in the Middle Ages via a comparative analysis of works from different areas of the Mediterranean world, where images are seen as only one outcome of wider and multifarious strategies for the public mise-en-scène of the rulers’ bodies. Its emphasis is on the ways in which medieval monarchs in different areas of the Mediterranean constructed their outward appearance and communicated it by means of a variety of rituals, object-types, and media.
