Private law touches every aspect of people's daily lives—landholding, inheritance, private property, marriage and family relations, contracts, employment, and business dealings—and the court records and legal documents produced under private law are a rich source of information for anyone researching social, political, economic, or environmental history. But to utilize these records fully, researchers need a fundamental understanding of how private law and legal institutions functioned in the place and time period under study. This book offers the first comprehensive introduction in either English or Spanish to private law in Spanish Latin America from the colonial period to the present....
Formative and shared assessment (F&SA) implies a radical change in the way in which we understand the meaning and function of the assessment of university learning. In this sense, assessment is learning: it is not only about what the student learns but also about how the student learns. This means that any learning task involves making students aware of what and how they learn and how this learning can be used successfully in the future. Formative and Shared Assessment to Promote Global University Learning offers an updated and comprehensive review of F&SA in university teaching from an international perspective. In this regard, this publication provides an update of the concepts and approaches to F&SA and suggests a review of the methods, techniques, and instruments of F&SA as well as the conditions of validity and reliability to garner high quality. Covering topics such as feminist pedagogies, learning-oriented tasks, and student engagement, this premier reference source is an essential resource for educational administration, libraries, educators of K-12 and higher education, pre-service teachers, government officials, researchers, and academicians.

This book on Acrylic Polymers for Healthcare presents eight chapters organised into three parts by providing new ideas in design, synthesis and a detailed study of new acrylate materials in healthcare applications. Part I represents Chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4 focussing on toning up of technologies for making dental dentures with better properties. Part II comprises Chapters 5 and 6 dealing with synthetic polymer-based nanoparticles as intelligent drug delivery systems and bismuth nanoparticles for improved green light emission. Part III represents Chapters 7 and 8 describing the aspects of mitigation of acrylamide in foods in the context of an African perspective and the importance of acrylic-based polymeric adsorbents so that the reader can get an idea about the various types and forms of polymeric materials used for the removal of heavy metals from water.
Roving vigilantes, fear-mongering politicians, hysterical pundits, and the looming shadow of a seven hundred-mile-long fence: the US–Mexican border is one of the most complex and dynamic areas on the planet today. Hyperborder provides the most nuanced portrait yet of this dynamic region. Author Fernando Romero presents a multidisciplinary perspective informed by interviews with numerous academics, researchers, and organizations. Provocatively designed in the style of other kinetic large-scale studies like Rem Koolhaas's Content and Bruce Mau’s Massive Change, Hyperborder is an exhaustively researched report from the front lines of the border debate.

The Santurce Crabbers are one of the most storied franchises in the Caribbean. Their first owner, Pedrín Zorrilla, was a visionary, with many Negro League and big league contacts. Zorrilla signed up such eventual Hall of Famers as Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, Roy Campanella, Ray Dandridge and Leon Day during the team's first decade. Santurce was the most successful winter league team of the 1950s, with three Caribbean Series titles. Roberto Clemente, Rubén Gómez, Willie Mays, Willard Brown and Bob Thurman played for the Crabbers during those glory years. Tom Lasorda used to pitch for them. Santurce set up working agreements with the Giants, Orioles, Dodgers and Astros, among other teams. Earl Weaver and Frank Robinson were team managers and Hall of Famers Bob Gibson, Jim Palmer, Reggie Jackson and Robin Yount were early-career Crabbers. Orlando Cepeda and Tony (Tany) Pérez played their entire winter league careers with Santurce. Lee Smith, the major leagues' all-time saves leader, pitched for them. Juan González and José Cruz, Jr., are two of the team's Puerto Rican stars in the 1990s.
