Stop Surviving Start Fighting

Jazz Thornton first attempted to take her own life at the age of 12. Multiple attempts followed and she spent time in psychiatric wards and under medical supervision as she rode the rollercoaster of depression and anxiety through her teenage years - yet the attempts continued. Find out what Jazz learned about how her negative thought patterns came to be, and how she turned those thoughts - and her life - around. Who and what helped, and what didn't help. The insights she gives will help create greater understanding of those grappling with mental illness, and those around them who desperately want to help. Jazz went on to attend film school, and to co-found Voices of Hope, a non-profit organi...

Letters to You

This book was designed to be read not just once, or in order, letter by letter, but to be used again and again as a tool when you encounter difficult emotions and experiences, to help you feel less alone. It is based on something that helped Jazz Thornton on her own journey towards mental health. A good friend wrote her a set of letters each in a separate labelled envelope. Every letter was specifically designed to help fight a particular feeling or situation, and Jazz read them all many times. So, following this model, in this book each chapter is in the form of a letter, and they cover a range of emotions and situations, including the following, and much more: To read when you are feeling ...

Jazz Thornton has achieved huge international recognition for her work in advocacy for mental health and the use of voices of lived experience to provide hope to those who are struggling. This journal, written with Genevieve Mora, her co-founder of the organisation Voices of Hope, provides a creative approach to self-help in mental health and well-being. This attractive journal contains simple exercises (with examples) plus thoughts and reflections by its two authors, both survivors of mental illness themselves. It is a practical and creative outlet for those struggling with mental health or simply looking to improve their personal outlook on life. As well as exercises there are inspirational quotations, pages for personal reflection or ideas, and even some colouring-in pages. There is a 'Where to Get Help' section at the back.

Summary of Jazz Thornton's Stop Surviving Start Fighting

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The idea for Stop Surviving Start Fighting came from a conversation I had with my friend Esther, who was one of the key people in my life at the time. She saw me at my worst, many times, and always pushed me to fight. #2 I had spent years complaining about how hard I was fighting, but according to this definition, I wasn’t really fighting at all. I decided to stop surviving and start fighting. #3 Our internal belief system is shaped by our experiences, culture, family, school, and friends. These factors help develop our beliefs, which are then used to determine how we see the world and the future. #4 I could see a sequence of events and experiences that had formed me into the person I was at that time. I had so many warped beliefs about myself that altered my behavior as a teenager and launched me into a world of hurt.

The Book of Bastards

Move over, Benedict Arnold . . . Oh to be sure, America's first traitor is one of the 101 bastards you will find in this one-of-a-kind account of bad guys in Washington. But compared to some of the gross misconduct in this frighteningly funny history book, well, let's just say he's in good company. This page-turner of a potboiler reveals all the dirtiest little secrets readers never learned in history class. From illegitimate children (we thought Grover Cleveland was too boring to have sex) and illicit trysts (Warren G. Harding in the White House phone booth with his secretary) to turncoats (make up your own mind about Daniel Ellsberg) and traitors (General Wilkinson, aka a Spanish secret agent), you will discover all the dirt worth dishing since the founding of Jamestown. The Book of Bastards - because what you don't know about the history of our great nation can make you laugh and cry!

33 Artists in 3 Acts

  • Categories: Art

This compelling narrative goes behind the scenes with important living artists around the world to humanize and demystify contemporary art. When people think of contemporary art they often think of the market: eye-popping prices for splashy works. But Sarah Thornton argues that, for artists, the key marker of success isn’t money but credibility. 33 Artists in 3 Acts explores the strategies deployed by artists from international superstars to unheralded teachers. Thornton challenges the romantic vision of the lone artist, showing how these driven, inventive personalities interact with professional and intellectual networks of supporters, collaborators, and assistants. Drawing from interviews with 130 artists on four continents, Thornton crafts a brilliantly structured narrative that reveals the dynamicsof creative lives.
