The aim of the Series is to publish and promote the highest quality of writing in European social psychology. The Editor and the Editorial Board encourage publications which approach social psychology from a wide range of theoretical perspectives and whose content may be applied, theoretical or empirical. The authors of books in the Series should be affiliated to institutions that are located in countries which would qualify for membership of the Association. Neither Good Nor Bad
When confronted by a range of violent actions perpetrated by lone individuals, contemporary society exhibits a constant tendency to react in terms of helpless, even perplexed horror. Seeking explanations for the apparently inexplicable, commentators often hurry to declare the perpetrators as “evil”. This question is not restricted to individuals: history has repeatedly demonstrated how groups and even entire nations can embark on a criminal plan united by the conviction that they were fighting for a good and just cause. Which circumstances occasioned such actions? What was their motivation? Applying a number of historical, scientific and social-scientific approaches to this question, this study produces an integrative portrait of the reasons for human behavior and advances a number of different interpretations for their genesis. The book makes clear the extent to which we live in socially-constructed realities in which we cling for dear life to a range of conceptions and beliefs which can all too easily fall apart in situations of crisis.

Social Psychology of Pictures
We see and represent our social environment not as it is, but as we believe it to be. This is the thesis defended in this book, supported by conceptual elements and illustrated by numerous examples drawn from anthropology, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology and social psychology. These examples show that people sharing different beliefs about the same object produce different images of that object (such as drawings or photos), and highlight that such people interpret the same image of this object differently. Finally, they show that, when these people communicate through images, they find it difficult to understand each other.
