Revealing the Mysteries of Heaven

What happens when we die? Where do we go? Is there an afterlife? Does the Bible say anything specific about heaven? Are there streets of gold there? This book will answer those questions and tell you what’s up with heaven. By studying the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation and studying a variety of topics, the curtain is pulled back—to the extent Scripture allows—to reveal the glorious and utterly amazing realm of heaven.

Christian Compassion

Although not always unswervingly, from antiquity until today, Christians have engaged in charity. As settings changed, compassion evolved, laying in place an ongoing mosaic of Christian ideas and institutions surrounding care. From the antique and medieval to the modern and contemporary, each age offers unique actors and insights into how compassion is viewed and achieved. We consider repeating motifs and novel appearances in the arc of Christian compassion which enlighten and inspire. Encountered on the journey are the formation and sacrifice of ancient Christians; an emphasis on virtues taught through sparing and sharing; the nascent social welfare of the Byzantine church; the sacralization and mobilization of a medieval church; innovative ideas from reformers who advance the role of the state; and modern movements in justice, peace, humanitarianism, mutual aid, and community development.

Humble Moments

This is intended to be a short and quick version of the Lectio Divina to help one to get through depression, or feel closer to God through prayer, meditation, and deep thought. I developed this for myself, to help me to be more consistent with my prayer time and focus my thought-life more on Jesus. Like Lectio Divina this is to be done in 4 parts: Lectio = Read; Meditatio = Meditate; Oratio = Pray; Contemplatio = Contemplate; You reread each part 2 to 3 times each before going to the next section. Each day should take no more than 3 to 5 minutes to complete. Whether you think you heard from God or not, go over the quote and scripture a final time and finish it off with an amen, then go about your day. Maybe you will hear from God through another person, maybe not. The whole exercise is to teach us to be completely in the moment but also to learn to move on with life.

Gospel Witness through the Ages

A definitive history of Christian evangelism—including noteworthy persons, movements, and methods from the past Christians have been sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with nonbelievers for two thousand years. Within this deep history is wisdom for today—including numerous models for understanding what evangelism is and how it should be done. In Gospel Witness through the Ages, David Gustafson introduces readers to evangelism’s noteworthy persons, movements, and methods from the entire scope of church history—including both examples to emulate and examples to avoid. With this thorough historical approach, Gustafson expands the reader’s conception of the evangelistic task and suggests new ways to shape our identity as gospel witnesses today through the influence of these earlier generations of Christians. With discussion questions for further reflection and primary sources from major evangelistic figures of the past, Gospel Witness through the Ages is the most definitive history of evangelism available—essential for understanding how Christians today can continue proclaiming the gospel to the whole world, as Christians have in every century past.

"Adopting for God is the first historical study to focus on the role of adoption evangelists in the transnational adoption movement between the United States and East Asia. It shows how both evangelical and ecumenical Christians challenged Americans to redefine traditional familial values and rethink race matters"--
