This book contains 11 papers from the 8th Workshop on Global Sourcing, held in Val d’Isère, France, during March 23–26, 2014, which were carefully reviewed and selected from 42 submissions. They are based on a vast empirical base brought together by leading researchers in information systems, strategic management, and operations. This volume is intended for students, academics, and practitioners interested in research results and experiences in outsourcing and offshoring of information technology and business processes. Topics discussed in this book combine theoretical and practical insights regarding challenges that industry leaders, policy makers, and professionals face; and they predominantly focus on how sourcing relationships are governed at the national, industry, and firm level. The contributions also examine current and future trends in outsourcing, paying particular attention to cloud services and their impact on the outsourcing sector.
Coordination in Large-Scale Agile Software Development
This book explores coordination within and between teams in the context of large-scale agile software development, providing readers a deeper understanding of how coordinated action between teams is achieved in multiteam systems. An exploratory multiple case study with five multiteam systems and a total of 66 interviewees from development teams at SAP SE is presented and analyzed. In addition, the book explores stereotypes of coordination in large-scale agile settings and shares new perspectives on integrating conditions for coordination. No previous study has researched this topic with a similar data set, consisting of insights from professional software development teams. As such, the book will be of interest to all researchers and practitioners whose work involves software product development across several teams.
Collaborative Quality Assurance in Information Systems Development
This book examines how and why collaborative quality assurance techniques, particularly pair programming and peer code review, affect group cognition and software quality in agile software development teams. Prior research on these extremely popular but also costly techniques has focused on isolated pairs of developers and ignored the fact that they are typically applied in larger, enduring teams. This book is one of the first studies to investigate how these techniques depend on and influence the joint cognitive accomplishments of entire development teams rather than individuals. It employs theories on transactive memory systems and functional affordances to provide answers based on empirical research. The mixed-methods research presented includes several in-depth case studies and survey results from more than 500 software developers, team leaders, and product managers in 81 software development teams. The book’s findings will advance IS research and have explicit implications for developers of code review tools, information systems development teams, and software development managers.
Software Business
This book contains the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Software Business, ICSOB 2015, held in Braga, Portugal, in June 2015. The theme of the event was "Enterprising Cities" focusing on a noticeable spillover of software within other industries enabling new business models: Companies bundle their physical products and software services into solutions and start to sell independent software products in addition to physical products. The 16 full, five short, and three doctoral symposium papers accepted for ICSOB were selected from 42 submissions. The papers span a wide range of issues related to contemporary software business—from strategic aspects that include external reuse, ecosystem participation, and acquisitions to operational challenges associated with running software business.

Developing and Evaluating a Cloud Service Relationship Theory
This book develops, evaluates and refines a cloud service relationship theory that explains how cloud users’ uncertainties arise in these relationships and how they can be mitigated. To that end, the book employs principal-agent theory and the concepts of bounded rationality and social embeddedness. Agile Software Development Teams
This book explores how agile development practices, in particular pair programming, code review and automated testing, help software development teams to perform better. Agile software engineering has become the standard software development paradigm over the last decade, and the insights provided here are taken from a large-scale survey of 80 professional software development teams working at SAP SE in Germany. In addition, the book introduces a novel measurement tool for assessing the performance of software development teams. No previous study has researched this topic with a similar data set comprising insights from more than 450 professional software engineers.
