Originally brought from Africa to Virginia as slaves, the Williamson-Thompson-Meadows-Wheatley families trace roots to their earliest identifiable ancestors, Silvey Powell-Williamson (b. 1785), Celia (her daughter) and Luke Meadows, and Andrew Thompson (b. 1800). They were moved by slave owners to Ohio, Illinois, Missouri. Their descendants lived also in West Virginia, Tennessee, New York, Michigan, California and elsewhere.
Descendants of the immigrant family, Johannes Flinner and his wife Anna, married ca 1740 in Germany, who immigrated with their older children to America ; younger children were born in Pennsylvania and/or Maryland.
