As the stakes escalate and Carissa's life hangs in the balance, she faces an impossible decision: succumb to Danny's demands or fight for her freedom at any cost.
Recent years have witnessed tremendous growth in the population of mobile users demanding high performance, reliability and quality-of-service (QoS). Wireless networks are undergoing rapid developments and dramatic changes in the underlying technologies, in order to cope with the difficulties posed by the scarce wireless resource as well as keep up with the increasing day-to-day demand for cost-effective service of multimedia applications. Predicting and optimising the performance and QoS of wireless networks using analytical modelling, simulation experiments, monitoring and testbed-based measurements are crucial to the proper design, tuning, resource management and capacity planning of such networks. This book is dedicated to review important developments and results, explore recent state-of-the-art research and discuss new strategies for performance modelling, analysis and enhancement of wireless networks. The objective is to make analytical modelling, simulation and measurement tools, and innovative performance evaluation methodology possible and understandable to a wider audience.
The three volume set LNAI 4251, LNAI 4252, and LNAI 4253 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems, KES 2006, held in Bournemouth, UK, in October 2006. The 480 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from about 1400 submissions. The papers present a wealth of original research results from the field of intelligent information processing.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Modelling Techniques and Tools for Computer Performance Evaluation, TOOLS 2002, held in London, UK in April 2002. The 18 revised full papers and six tool papers presented together with an invited contribution were carefully reviewed and selected from 57 submissions. Among the topics addressed are generic techniques like stochastic process algebras and the analysis of Petri nets and Markov chains, as well as the development and employment of tools in areas such as the Internet, software performance engineering, parallel systems, real-time systems, and transaction processing.
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the SPEC International Performance Evaluation Workshop, SIPEW 2008, held in Darmstadt, Germany, in June 2008 . The 17 revised full papers presented were carefully selected out of 39 submissions for inclusion in the book. The papers are organized in topical sections on models for software performance engineering; benchmarks and workload characterization; Web services and service-oriented architectures; power and performance; and profiling, monitoring and optimization.
Architecture Description Languages is an essential reference for both academic and professional researchers in the field of system engineering and design. The papers presented in this volume were selected from the workshop of the same name that was held as part of the World Computer Congress 2004 Conference, held in Toulouse, France in August 2004. This collection presents significant research and innovative developments and applications from both academic researchers and industry practitioners on topics ranging from Semantics to Tool and Development Environments. The aim of an ADL is to formally describe software and hardware architectures. Usually, an ADL describes components, their interf...
This is a Festschrift for Dr. Jack Rueter, compiled on the occasion of his 60th birthday. The book consists of peer-reviewed scientific work by Dr. Rueter’s colleagues. Its contents, compiled by well-established scholars and researchers in NLP, linguistics, philology and digital humanities, pertain to latest advances in natural language processing, to newly developed digital resources, and to endangered languages. Contributions touch upon a wide array of languages such as historical English, Chukchi, Mansi, Erzya, Komi, Finnish, Apurinã, Sign Languages, Sami languages, and Japanese. Most papers present work on endangered languages or on domains with a limited number of resources available for NLP. This book is a tribute to Dr. Rueter’s long career as a true pioneer in the field of digital documentation of endangered languages. His work has always been and remains to be characterized by altruistic thinking and dedication to a greater good in building free and open-source tools and resources for languages which have previously not been afforded such much-needed attention.
