This book presents the essential role of mathematical modelling and computational methods in representing physical phenomena mathematically, focusing on the significance of the I-function. Serving as a generalized form of special functions, particularly generalised hypergeometric functions, the I-function emerges from solving dual integral equations, prevalent in scenarios such as mixed boundary problems in potential theory, energy diffusion, and population dynamics. Offers the most recent developments on I-function and their application in mathematical modelling and possible applications to some other research areas Expands the area of special functions that have been developed and applied ...

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Intelligent Data Engineering and Automated Learning, IDEAL 2007, held in Birmingham, UK, in December 2007. The papers include topical sections on learning and information processing, data mining and information management, bioinformatics and neuroinformatics, agents and distributed systems, financial engineering and modeling, and agent-based approach to service sciences.
Spin glasses are magnetic materials. Statistical mechanics, a subfield of physics, has been a powerful tool to theoretically analyse various unique properties of spin glasses. A number of new analytical techniques have been developed to establish a theory of spin glasses. Surprisingly, thesetechniques have turned out to offer new tools and viewpoints for the understanding of information processing problems, including neural networks, error-correcting codes, image restoration, and optimization problems. This book is one of the first publications of the past ten years that provide abroad overview of this interdisciplinary field. Most of the book is written in a self-contained manner, assuming only a general knowledge of statistical mechanics and basic probability theory. It provides the reader with a sound introduction to the field and to the analytical techniques necessary tofollow its most recent developments.
A six-volume revision of J.M. Dalziel's 1937 encyclopaedic work, to supplement the 2nd edition of the Flora of West Tropical Africa. In volumes one to five 5260 plants are described, each with its geographical range, habitat and economic attributes. Volume 6 is an aggregation of all the indices in the previous five volumes.
Computational Intelligence: A Compendium presents a well structured overview about this rapidly growing field with contributions from leading experts in Computational Intelligence. The main focus of the compendium is on applied methods, tried-and-proven as being effective to realworld problems, which is especially useful for practitioners, researchers, students and also newcomers to the field. This state-of- handbook-style book has contributions by leading experts.
Offers an exact, non-asymptotic approach to studying large-scale features of finite networks that arise in real applications.
