Government Foresighted Leading

Over the past several decades of reform and opening up to the outside world, remarkable economic growth has been achieved in China and has drawn considerable world attention. The question of how to explain that phenomenon and the road China has taken towards its modernization have been the focus of attention from worldwide economists and experts. This book attempts to explore China's economy from the perspective of government foresighted leading which gives full play to government functions, particularly those of regional governments. On the one hand, government foresighted leading enables government to exercise foresighted leading by means of foundations, mechanisms and regulations of marke...

Quarks, Nuclei And Stars: Memorial Volume Dedicated For Gerald E Brown

This memorial volume is dedicated to physicist Gerald E Brown (1926-2013) or 'Gerry' as he was known to his many students, postdocs, colleagues and friends. As written by one of the contributors to this book, 'Gerry was an inspiring father figure for generations of theoretical nuclear physicists and a great human being'.This book covers a wide range of topics in nuclear physics, including nuclear structure, two- and three-body nuclear forces, strangeness nuclear physics, chiral symmetry, hadrons in dense medium, hidden local symmetry, heavy quark symmetry, cosmic neutrinos, nuclear double-beta decay, neutron stars, gravitational waves, renormalization group methods, exotic nuclei, electron ion collider (EIC), and much more. Most of the authors are Gerry's former students and collaborators. We hope readers will find this book very interesting not only for its physics content but also for the window it gives into Gerry's personal legacy and humanity. This book has vivid recollections of Gerry at Stony Brook, Princeton and Copenhagen, together with his humor and his very special intuitive way of thinking.

Jet Quenching in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions at the LHC

This thesis presents the first measurements of jets in relativistic heavy ion collisions as reported by the ATLAS Collaboration. These include the first direct observation of jet quenching through the observation of a centrality-dependent dijet asymmetry. Also, a series of jet suppression measurements are presented, which provide quantitative constraints on theoretical models of jet quenching. These results follow a detailed introduction to heavy ion physics with emphasis on the phenomenon of jet quenching and a comprehensive description of the ATLAS detector and its capabilities with regard to performing these measurements.

Chinese Economic Growth and Fluctuations

Since the economic reform of the 1980s, Chinese economy has boomed and has now become the second largest in the world. Based on the constant and systematic researches of economic periodicity, this book studies Chinese economic growth and fluctuations. As a famous Chinese economist, the author is the first one who demonstrated the investment periodicity in China. His groundbreaking studies on Chinese economic periodic fluctuation have significant impact at home and abroad. The first six papers collected in this book mainly examine issues on Chinese periodic fluctuation and macroeconomic regulation, including the periodic fluctuations from 1953 to 1994, and a comparative analysis of five macroeconomic regulations since the reform and open up in the late 1980s. The last seven papers appear in the author's collected works for the first time. They are focused on the new characteristics of Chinese macroeconomic operation and regulation after the financial crisis of 2007-2008. In addition, this book reviews on China's economic growth from 1949 to 2009 and provides some valuable suggestions on how to maintain the rising trend of the new economic cycle.

Chinese Macroeconomic Operation

Liu Shucheng is a famous Chinese economist who has a major impact on the study of China's macroeconomics and quantitative economics. Selecting some of Liu's representative studies on Chinese macroeconomy, this book will be a valuable reference for understanding and studying Chinese economy. The first five papers appear in the author's collected works for the first time. They mainly study the overall balance of Chinese macroeconomic operation and the relative economic mathematical models. The commodity-currency balance sheet improved the earliest input-output model introduced to China in the 1980s, and the author's frontier research is of great importance for Chinese economic study. In attempting to solve the problems caused by incontrollable fixed assets investment, the author examines the periodicity of fixed assets investment in China, including the characteristics, causes, and the impact of investment periodic fluctuation on economic periodic fluctuation. Besides, the author studies Phillips curves in China in a comprehensive and intensive way. These in-depth analysis provide original insights based on the author's extensive research.

Transversity 2008

Transversity 2008, the second workshop on OC Transverse polarization phenomena in hard processesOCO follows the first one held in Como after three years. As in that case, the event comes at the end of a two-years project financed by the Italian Ministry of Education. In the time between the two Workshops, decisive steps towards the revealing of the transverse spin structure of the proton were taken on both the theoretical and experimental sides. The milestone of the first extraction of Transversity and the Sivers function for the u- and d-quarks deserves a special mention. In the same period, historic experiments that in the last decade contributed to the first pioneering measurements in the...
