Let's Go!

“When Ben got out of the hospital he said, ‘When I fall down and can’t pick myself up we’ll know it’s over. Until then, we rock!’” – Jeff Carlisi Benjamin Orr was the co-founder, co-lead singer, and bassist for the platinum-selling rock band The Cars. Often considered the band’s heartthrob, Orr possessed an incredible voice, diverse musical talent, and rare stage presence, all balanced by an enigmatic personality and a relentless determination to reach rock stardom. Cleveland's Rock and Roll Venues

Cleveland has always been a music town. And thanks to Cleveland deejay Alan Freed, who booked the first venue for rock enthusiasts, music fans have never lacked for places to go see their favorite acts perform in person. This book honors the astute owners and their venues-from yesterday to today-that present fans with the music they crave. The early clubs helped usher in Cleveland as the designated Rock and Roll Capital of the World. Today's venues continue the tradition, thus ensuring that music lovers of all ages, and attitudes, get to enjoy their rock and roll on the North Coast, with all its variety and talent. Because of them, musical memories continue to be made.

The Mystery of Jacob Engles

The Mystery of Jacob Engles

The title story, The Mystery of Jacob Engles, was inspired by a real family mystery. Family history information abruptly ended with the author’s paternal grandfather, George Ewing Ogle. But there seemed to be an understanding that the real great-grandfather was likely to be a man by the name of Jacob Engles, who went off to the Civil War in 1864 and was gone for decades. Lacking real answers, the author weaves a moving tale, accounting for the missing years, explaining how the family became Ogles, and telling how Jacob Engles ended back in the hometown to find his family. The other ten short stories in this collection were written over the period of sixteen years, and most were also inspired by real people.

A look at the Methodist tradition of social witness. Since the beginning of the Methodist movement, “Methodists” have spoken to the issues of the day as an expression of the Wesleyan commitment to social holiness. The General Board of Church and Society upholds the Wesleyan commitment to social holiness through witnessing to just social policies and practices. This 100-year commemorative book will utilize archival materials from the agency’s historic publications to tell the story.
