England's Greatest Spy

John J. Turi, in his book, England's Greatest Spy, presents startling new evidence to prove that the man who led Ireland throughout most of the 20th century was not a sainted national leader of high purpose and moral principle. Instead, he was an agent for England, subverting Irish aspirations while working diligently to promote English interests in Ireland and America. Rather than lionize de Valera, as a succession of Irish writers have done for more than half a century, Turi puts him in the dock and exposes the ways and means by which every major decision of the Irish President worked to the benefit of England with disastrous results for Ireland. In doing so, Turi sets Irish history on its...

The Belligerent Prelate

This book is an examination and evaluation from a historical perspective of the alliance that was established and forged between the former Taoiseach and President of Ireland, Eamon de Valera, and the former President of Maynooth and Archbishop of Melbourne, Australia, Dr Daniel Mannix. The book will examine how the alliance between the two men played a pivotal role in Ireland’s push for independence. The Archbishop’s role is used as a symbol of the vast Irish diaspora worldwide and how their support, both financially and physically through demonstrations for Ireland, helped keep the push for autonomy alive. Having examined the role the Archbishop played in his alliance with de Valera and the clergy, the book appraises how Dr Mannix, so revered at one stage in Irish society, became such an isolated figure after 1925. Irish history has largely neglected the role of the Archbishop. This historical analysis, grounded in research of both primary and secondary sources including previously undocumented oral evidence, archival papers, written public and private correspondence between the two characters and visual sources, will help to replenish his role.

A first course in two of the 20th century's most exciting contributions to physics: special relativity and quantum theory. Historical material is incorporated into the exposition. Coverage is broad and deep, offering the instructor flexibility in presentation. Nearly every section contains at least one illustrative example (with all calculations), and each chapter has a wide selection of problems. Topics covered include relativistic dynamics, quantum mechanics, parity, quantum statistical physics, the nuclear shell model, fission, fusion, color and the strong interaction, gauge symmetries, and grand unification.
