Reverend Horace Edwin HAYDEN, continues to be the leading genealogist of the PEYTON family of Virginia. His celebrated book, "Virginia Genealogies," published in 1891, included a chapter on the PEYTON family: "PEYTON, 'of Iselham,' Cambridgeshire, England, Gloucester, and Westmoreland Counties, Virginia." The author closely followed the English PEYTON lines in the 1878 book "Genealogical Memoirs of the Extinct Family of Chester of Chicheley," by Robert E. Chester WATERS. One hundred seventeen years ago, when Reverend HAYDEN published the lineage and history of the PEYTON family of Virginia, his work was the most comprehensive and accurate in data, scope and material ever received. Since then, his extensive "Peyton" chapter in "Virginia Genealogies" has formed the basis of all succeeding published genealogies of the Peyton family. This scanned reprint will be a welcome and necessary resource for those studying the PEYTON family of Virginia. His acclaimed essay "Descent" is included.

Siberian Journey

Perry McDonough Collins was the first American to journey through Siberia and down the 2,690-mile Amur River to the Pacific Ocean. In 1860 he wrote A Voyage Down the Amoor, an account of his adventures, and his book proved so popular that it was reissued in 1864. Siberian Journey consists of Collins’s original text framed by an interpretive introduction and explanatory notes by Charles Vevier, providing an extensive, first-hand account of Russia’s land and its people in the mid–nineteenth century.

Braddock At The Monongahela

On July 9, 1755, an army of British and American soldiers commanded by Major General Edward Braddock marched toward a major western outpost held by the French, confident of an easy victory. Suddenly, they were attacked by a much smaller force of French and Indian fighters-Braddock's army was destroyed, its commander fatally wounded, and supplies and secret papers were lost to the enemy. Paul E. Kopperman has used all of the known eyewitness reports of Braddock's defeat-some never before printed-to present an exciting critical account of this definitive battle in the French and Indian War. Braddock at the Monongahela is a synthesis of in-depth analysis of primary source materials, thoughtful evaluation of previous studies on the subject, and Kopperman's own persuasive interpretation.
