William moved towards him, Johnny jumped away from him desperately looking around for some way to get out. The window next to the door was fixed; in his desperation he considered putting his fist through it. William saw the desperation in his eyes, and the clenched fist signalling his intention. He turned the key, opened the door and hobbled a few paces away. Johnny was quick to slip out the door, he turned back and looked into Williams eyes and nodded his appreciation. Then he was gone. God help the poor little mite, if I had two ...

Legal Weapon 2

Legal Weapon is an incredibly popular play, having been performed 1897 times since it was written nine years ago (1996). It has won numerous awards at One Act Play Festivals. It was originally commissioned by ten Road Safety Authorities, following the unparalleled success of Too Much Punch for Judy. It tells the story of a young man whose negligence behind the wheel causes the loss of a life and the loss of his freedom. The story is fictional but uses testimony of RTA offenders and victim families. Legal Weapon II is a “new improved” version of the original play, incorporating the idea that the person Andy kills is known to him. She is one of his girlfriend’s best friends. This makes his revelation to her all the more difficult… particularly as it comes at a time when she too must reveal something to him!

I Am the Law: How Judge Dredd Predicted Our Future

He is the law - and you better believe it! Judge, jury and executioner, Judge Dredd is the brutal comic book cop policing the chaotic future urban jungle of Mega-City One, created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra and launching in the pages of 2000 AD in 1977. But what began as a sci-fi action comic quickly evolved into a searing satire on hardline, militarised policing and ‘law and order’ politics, its endless inventiveness and ironic humour acting as a prophetic warning about our world today - and with important lessons for our future. Blending comic book history with contemporary radical theories on policing, I Am The Law takes key Dredd stories from the last 45 years and demonstrates how they provide a unique wake up call about our gradual, and not so gradual, slide towards authoritarian policing. From the politicisation of policing to ‘zero tolerance’, from violent suppression of protest to the rise of the surveillance state, I Am The Law examines how a comic book warned us about the chilling endgame of today's 'law and order' politics.
