"It was love at first sight when Jonathan Calvert saw the Matterhorn in 1953 ... Over the next fifty years, Calvert climbed, hiked, trekked, sailed, kayaked, and dog sledded in wild places across the globe ... This book is a record of his adventures, told through memoir, journals, and photographs"--Jacket flap.

Kent Rush

  • Categories: Art

"Kent Rush is a prolific artist whose work ranges from intimate still-life collages and elegant paintings on stretched-paper panels to monumentally-scaled silver-gelatin photographs. His hauntingly beautiful and evocative work is the subject of this catalog published in conjunction with the artist's retrospective at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas. This catalog beautifully illustrates the richness and depth of Rush's work over the course of nearly thirty years. It includes an essay by Lyle W. Williams, curator of prints and drawings and of the Rush retrospective at the McNay, a bibliography, a glossary, and an appreciation by Garo Z. Antreasian."--Amazon.

Cullman County was established in 1877 in large part from the west side of Blount and the east side of Winston counties. Today, the few old cemeteries which existed in those counties in the early days are found within the borders of Cullman. The cemetery listings in this four volume set were conducted by the author beginning in 2003 and ending in early 2006. An attempt was made to personally visit every cemetery in Cullman County and record information from each readable monument. Volume 4 of this series covers alphabetically cemeteries M through Z, beginning with the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery and concluding with the Zion Grove Cemetery. The volumes are filled with photos of many of the old cemetery sites and notes describing the company and unit of most of the old Civil War era veterans. This set of books is vital to any serious student of Cullman County genealogy and history.
