Host matriks gelas berbasis pada gelas borat dan fosfat dengan masing-masing formula adalah (65-x)B2O3-15Na2O-10PbO-5ZnO-5Li2O -xNd2O3 (x = 0,0; 0,05; 0,1; 0,5; 1,0; 2,0 dan 4,0 mol%) dan (50-x)P2O5-8Al2O3-12Na2O-10KF-10CaO -10CaF2-xNd2O3 (x = 0,0; 0,5; 1,0; 1,5 dan 2,0 mol%). Metode melt-quenching dengan suhu peleburan sampai dengan 1200 oC digunakan dalam proses pendopingan ion Nd3+ untuk memperoleh kehomogenan komposisi gelas. Untuk memperoleh informasi terkait struktur gelas, sifat-sifat optik dan radiatif lainnya maka dilakukan beberapa pengamatan dan pengukuran terhadap gelas yang dibangun. Pengukuran indeks bias dan kerapatan gelas masing-masing dilakukan dengan menggunakan Atago Refractometer dan prinsip Arcimedes.
Pada bab selanjutnya diikuti dengan penjelasan secara teoritis mengenai Gelas Sebagai Host Laser Ion Nd3+, deskripsi gelas fosfat (P2O5), Struktur Gelas Fosfat, Sifat Optik Didoping Ion Nd3+ , Koefisien Absorpsi dan Emisi, Ion Neodymium (Nd3+) dan Level Energi, Gelas Fosfat (P2O5) yang Didoping Nd3+ dan Karakterisasi Sampel. Beberapa tampilan berbentuk grafik dan tabel analisis ditunjukkan untuk menjelaskan sifat fisis, struktur, optik dan emisi dari sampel gelas Nd tersebut.
