La experiencia en torno al agua en nuestra ciudad se compone de extremos: severas inundaciones que conviven con un suministro precario y continuos tandeos. La crisis del agua es una amenaza en ciernes, su ciclo natural se ha visto alterado, y ello tiene repercusiones serias entre la población. Si bien las cuestiones técnicas que han permitido llegar hasta este punto son muchas: fugas, desaprovechamiento de manantiales, sistema de distribución deficiente...; a nuestros invitados, especialistas en gestión integral de recursos hídricos, Arturo Gleason y Martha Gleason, les parece más importante aún discutir acerca de la educación que se requiere para sensibilizar a la población acerca de los efectos de un uso excesivo e inconsciente del agua, y de la importancia de tener una mayor cercanía con la naturaleza desde la infancia para moldear un pensamiento menos antropocentrista y depredador. ¿Actualmente cómo funciona y cuáles son las fallas del sistema de recolección y distribución de agua de la Zona Metropolitana Guadalajara? ¿Qué tecnologías y conocimientos podrían aplicarse para solventar estas deficiencias?
Potentials and Trends in Biomimetics
There is a wide consensus about the necessity of sustainable development. There is also a consensus that wide areas of our economy, industry, and technology and the life styles in industrialized countries are not susta- able. Science and technology are widely regarded as (main) causes for this situation. Issues in this context comprise the generally low resource ef- ciency, an increased and mostly undebated technological power, an - creased invasiveness of modern technologies, increasing amounts and - versity of pollutants, and high technological risks. On the other hand science and technology are also regarded as (main) solution providers towards more sustainability. Thus the question is which type of science and technology is rather a part of the problem, and which type is rather a part of the solution? ‘Learning from nature’ may give some orientation in this context. B- mimetics and bionics are widely regarded as being a part of the solution.
