This volume consists of papers developed from a joint ACE/ISSI symposium at the occasion of the eightieth birthday of Johannes Geiss. The symposium explored insights into the composition of solar-system and galactic matter that have been brought about by recent space missions, ground-based studies, and theoretical advances. Coverage includes linking primordial to solar composition, planetary samples, solar sources and fractionation processes, and interstellar gas and Cosmic rays.
IAU S240 focuses on recent advances across the broad field of binary star research.
Annotation Approximately 100 contributions written primarily by European astronomists and astrophysicists are arranged into a series of sections addressing stellar structure and evolution; cluster distances and ages; IMF, mass segregation, and cluster evolution; lithium abundances and metallicities; rotation and angular momentum evolution; magnetic fields and stellar activity; and new technologies and large- scale programs. This volume contains the proceedings of a workshop on Solar Modeling held at the Institute for Nuclear Theory, University of Washington, Seattle during the Spring of 1994.This workshop was part of a program which concentrated on the nuclear, particle, and astrophysics of the solar neutrino problem, with particular emphasis on the experimental goals and opportunities. The workshop covered the physics of the standard and alternative solar models, the present status of the solar neutrino problem, the existing uncertainties in the nuclear and atomic physics (opacity) of the standard solar model, and constraints from helioseismology. Among the topics discussed were: the evolution of the rotating sun; solar model independent neutrino observables; the role of convective overshoot and diffusion; and turbulence in the solar interior and the role of g-modes. It was unique in bringing together nuclear, particle, atomic physicists and astrophysicists working on this problem.

This is the proceedings of an international conference on the evolution of matter in the Universe, with emphasis on the following topics: big bang nucleosynthesis, cosmic ray nucleosynthesis, stellar nucleosynthesis, galactic chemical and dynamical evolution, and evolution with redshift and cosmic chemical evolution in general.
