From Al-Andalus to the Americas (13th-17th Centuries)
This book offers a multi-perspective view of the filiation of different colonial and settler colonial experiences, from the Medieval Iberian Peninsula to the early Modern Americas. All the articles in the volume refer the reader to colonial orders that extended over time, that substantially reduced indigenous populations, that imposed new productive strategies and created new social hierarchies. The ideological background and how conquests were organised; the treatment given to the conquered lands and people; the political organisations, and the old and new agricultural systems are issues discussed in this volume.

Hidráulica agraria y sociedad feudal
L'estudi de les pràctiques d'hidràulica agrària desenvolupades durant l'Edat Mitjana ha mostrat que no ens trobem davant fenòmens purament «etnogràfics» o solucions universals sense valor històric. En aquesta obra col·lectiva s'ofereixen, d'una banda, treballs representatius de regions on s'inicia l'expansió agrària en el marc de la cristal·lització del sistema feudal (Catalunya Vella, Llenguadoc, Borgonya) i, per un altre, diversos estudis sobre les transformacions produïdes en territori conquistats durant els segles XII (regió de Terol, vall del Segre), XIII (regne de València) i finals del XV (regne de Granada). Los trabajos reunidos en esta obra estudian la formación de nuevos órdenes agrarios que acompañó a la colonización cristiana de los territorios ibéricos conquistados a al-Andalus, desde finales del siglo XI hasta los inicios de la Época Moderna. La apropiación de los espacios agrarios creados por los musulmanes fue seguida por reorientaciones profundas que alteraron los ecosistemas agro-pastorales en función del éxito de las migraciones propiciadas por las conquistas y de los factores técnicos experimentados en las regiones de procedencia. Las distintas contribuciones comprenden visiones tanto del reino de Castilla como de la Corona de Aragón, pero a pesar de su diversidad, estas transformaciones comparten una lógica común, un «cambio de escala» determinado por criterios extensivos, que contrasta con el carácter intensivo de los espacios agrarios andalusíes y el sentido del límite que subyace en su concepción.

Negotiating Cultures
James I "the Conqueror", king of Arago-Catalonia, conquered Mediterranean Spain from Islam during fifty crusading years (1225-1276). From his many surrender treaties, only two survive in their interlinear bilingual originals, both presented here.
