CIVITAS São Paulo
This richly illustrated monograph explores the city-building aspirations of the Brazilian modern masters through their buildings in São Paulo. Works by Vilanova Artigas, Lina Bo Bardi, Salvador Candia, Rino Levi, Oscar Niemeyer and Paulo Mendes da Rocha were designed in response to the chaotic growth of one of the world’s largest metropolises. CIVITAS brings together for the first time a unique collection of nineteen buildings, proposing a fresh take on them through new photographs especially taken for the book and graphic elements re-drawn by the author. Some of the works are today references in the urban public space, underlining the contemporary relevance of this architecture.
Álvaro Siza / Museu Nadir Afonso
This singular work is one of the most outstanding buildings of the last decade in the oeuvre of Álvaro Siza, Pritzker Prize recipient in 1992. On a high plain by the river in the Roman city of Chaves, deep in the interior of his home country, Siza has built the Nadir Afonso Museum. Architectural Actions on the Religious Heritage after Vatican II
This book serves to shed some light on several controversial questions about contemporary interventions on religious heritage buildings. In the mid-1960s, a process of renewal of Catholic churches began, which sought to respond to the liturgical modifications implemented during the Vatican II (1962-65). Fifty years later, this process continues to be problematic in buildings with a high heritage or historical value. From an operational point of view, it is stimulating to revisit the most relevant architectures at the international level, those high-impact works that were generated thanks to an open and serene dialogue between principals, architects, users, artists and patrimonial leaders.
