Grammatical Roles and Relations
Frank Palmer's new book is a typological survey of grammatical roles, such as Agent, Patient, Beneficiary, and grammatical relations, such as Subject, Direct Object and Indirect Object, which are familiar concepts in traditional grammars. It describes the devices, such as the Passive, that alter or switch the identities between such roles and relations. A great wealth of examples is used to show that the grammatical systems of the familiar European languages are far from typical of many of the world's languages, for which we need to use such terms as 'Ergative' and 'Antipassive'. Professor Palmer provides an elegant and consistent framework within which grammatical roles and relations may be discussed, combining a great clarity of discussion with evidence from an enormous number of the world's languages.

New Advances in Lunar and Related Planetary Studies
Many facets of studies in planetary science are dependent on analyzing large volumes of in-situ and spacecraft data. Our understanding of the lunar evolution and its connection to deeper interior layers has been dramatically improved by the so-called deep space exploration missions, including NASA’s lunar reconnaissance orbiter narrow-angle camera, China’s Moon and Mar exploration program, and Chang’e series lunar relay satellite program, in coordination with Earth-based supporting observations. From Apollo 17 lunar surface operations (1972), there are many related operations including China’s lunar and deep space exploration (Chang’e-1 2007; Chang’e-2 2010; Chang’e-3 2013; Chang’e-4 2018; Chang’e-5 2020). On the 50th anniversary of the final Apollo mission to the Moon, this topic will bring together theory, numerical models, and observations capable of advancing our understanding of lunar evolution.
Workers at War
This book focuses on the lives, struggles, and contrasting perspectives of the 60,000 workers, military administrators, and technical staff employed in the largest, most strategic industry of the Nationalist government, the armaments industry based in the wartime capital, Chongqing. The author argues that China's arsenal workers participated in three interlocked conflicts between 1937 and 1953: a war of national liberation, a civil war, and a class war. The work adds to the scholarship on the Chinese revolution, which has previously focused primarily on rural China, showing how workers alienation from the military officers directing the arsenals eroded the legitimacy of the Nationalist regime and how the Communists mobilized working-class support in Chongqing. Moreover, in emphasizing the urban, working-class, and nationalist components of the 1949 revolution, the author demonstrates the multiple sources of workers identities and thus challenges previous studies that have exclusively stressed workers particularistic or regional identities.
