Happily Ever After
Happily Ever After is a richly illustrated exhibition catalogue. Featuring newly written essays by the author Nina Björk and curators Julia Björnberg and Anna Johansson, as well as presentations of the works and the artists. Happily Ever After brings together artists and artist collectives whose practices explore what happens to us as individuals and collectives in a time cast in a haze of neoliberal optimization of the self, economic and political stakes in our emotions, and an increasing contempt for weakness. Through a range of artistic expression, topics such as mindfulness, welfare state profits, the tech industry, and social media are addressed. Together, the works point to how our mode of experiencing and expressing feelings is in flux and how these changes in turn affect how we see ourselves, each other, and society. Happily Ever After invites reflection on how emotions can open up futures by emphasizing the importance of resistance in the form of authenticity and community, and how we choose to act in relation to each other. The book is published in collaboration with Malmö Konstmuseum.
Oomph
Oomph' is a book about the women who brought on a revolution in Swedish kitchens, linen closets, living rooms, and in the country's textile and fashion industries. With their work in glass, textiles, and ceramics, and their radical ideas about the future of domestic life, they put Sweden on the industrial design map in the middle of the twentieth century. Many women designers were engaged in the increasingly acute housing crisis, and questioned the way homes were traditionally designed. After the Second World War, new manufacturing opportunities emerged: new customs demanded new designs and materials. But many doors still remained closed to women designers.
Moderna exhibition 2014
Twice before, in 2006 and 2010, Moderna Museet’s inventory of Swedish contemporary art, the Moderna Exhibition, has been shown at the Museum in Stockholm. In autumn 2014, the third edition of the Moderna Exhibition was presented at Moderna Museet Malmö. Unlike the two previous exhibitions, the selection has been widened geographically beyond Sweden, to include artists from a large part of the Baltic region. The exhibition features 38 contemporary artists and artist groups from, or based in, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. A few historical elements will also be included. Tala Madani, Rip Image
The contrast between humour and seriousness, play and harsh reality is ever-present in Madani's artistic rendering of veritably ritualistic, often absurd situations that oscillate between the figurative and the abstract. Madani's small paintings invite the viewer to attend situations in which the power structures and masculine roles are inverted. The men interact in ways that move us from laughter to reflection. Complex structures and emotional layers are added to each other until the given outcomes are annulled.
