The inspiring and surprising life of Dr. Jill Biden Wife, mother and educator, Dr. Jill Biden has been described as President Biden's greatest political asset. Like many women of her generation, Jill Biden worked hard to balance family and career, always placing her commitments to her husband, sons and daughter at the center of her life. From Jill's earliest days dating Senator Biden, to her embrace of Beau and Hunter Biden, the birth of her daughter Ashley, her role by Joe Biden's side through Senate re-election race after Senate re-election race, and what would eventually be three attempts to secure the Democratic nomination for president, Jill Biden has lived in the public eye. And now th...

The Propaganda Model Today

While the individual elements of the propaganda system (or filters) identified by the Propaganda Model (PM) – ownership, advertising, sources, flak and anti-communism – have previously been the focus of much scholarly attention, their systematisation in a model, empirical corroboration and historicisation have made the PM a useful tool for media analysis across cultural and geographical boundaries. Despite the wealth of scholarly research Herman and Chomsky’s work has set into motion over the past decades, the PM has been subjected to marginalisation, poorly informed critiques and misrepresentations. Interestingly, while the PM enables researchers to form discerning predictions as regards corporate media performance, Herman and Chomsky had further predicted that the PM itself would meet with such marginalisation and contempt. In current theoretical and empirical studies of mass media performance, uses of the PM continue, nonetheless, to yield important insights into the workings of political and economic power in society, due in large measure to the model’s considerable explanatory power.

Glass Shatters

A man wakes up in a living room he doesn’t recognize, unable to remember anything about himself. All he has are the few remnants of his identity scattered throughout the house—clues to his past. He soon learns that he is Charles Lang, a brilliant scientist whose wife, Julie, and daughter, Jess, mysteriously disappeared several years ago. Soon, he begins to recover memories—memories that may or may not be his own—and as he does, he realizes that only by uncovering the details of his former life will he have any hope of being reunited with Julie and Jess. A haunting tale of love and longing, fate and free will, and the easily blurred lines between fiction and reality, Glass Shatters explores the risks of trying to reinvent oneself, and the dangers of pushing science to its limits.

The Teleological Discourse of Barack Obama

The Teleological Discourse of Barack Obama, by Richard Leeman, provides an in-depth analysis of President Barack Obama’s speeches and writings to explain the power of the 44th president's speaking. This book argues that, from his earliest writings through his latest presidential speeches, Obama has described the world through a teleological lens. Teleology is the philosophy of discovering in the essential nature of humans or countries the telos, or ideal, towards which one should progress. Obama consistently portrays freedom and equality as essential to human nature and the American spirit. Understanding his discourse as teleological helps explain the inspirational and philosophical nature ...

A decade of political infighting over comprehensive immigration reform appears at an end, after the 2012 election motivated the Republican Party to work with the Democratic Party's immigration reform agendas. However, a guest worker program within current reform proposals is generally overlooked by the public and by activist organizations. Also overlooked is significant corporate lobbying that affects legislation. This updated edition critically examines the new guest worker program included in the White House and Congressional bipartisan committee s immigration reform blueprints and puts the debate into historical and contemporary contexts. It describes how the influential U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the AFL-CIO agreed on guidelines for a new guest worker program to be included in the plan. Gonzalez shows how guest worker programs stand within a history of utilizing controlled, cheap, disposable labor with lofty projections rarely upheld. For courses in a wide variety of disciplines, this timely text taps into trends toward teaching immigration politics and policy.Features of the New Edition"

The book begins with the authors personal views of his early childhood and life on a little farm in rural Michigan in 1945. As you read these humorous essays keep in mind they actually happened. Some, well most, have evolved over the years into a blend of fact and fiction. As you follow along through school, a stint in the Army, marriage, raising a family, thirty years with General Motors and a second career on Mackinac Island, humor is not far behind. With friends, four highly inquisitive kids, an equally imaginative wife and the authors own array of blunders, topics are found aplenty. It only takes a bit of doctoring with half truths and the occasional lie and we have a story. Maybe it will bring back to the reader pleasant memories of times past and a few chuckles.

Crisis Lawyering explores this phenomenon and attempts to identify and define what it means to engage in the practice of law in crisis situations. In so doi...
