This book is meant as a companion volume to The Beatles Film & TV Chronicle 1961-1970 and covers the first ten years of the solo careers of the individual Beatles from 1971 to 1980. It is the indispensable reference book for every serious Beatles video collector, with several years worth of research and investigation into the massive amount of film material held in archives around the world. The book includes details on over 100 hours worth of solo material, with many items covered for the very first time, and is fully illustrated with over one hundred and eighty thumbnail images (b/w) taken from a variety of film sources. As a bonus, the book also includes a chapter of updates regarding recently discovered and new information about films of The Beatles as a group during the years from 1961 to 1970. Through the years the author has been consulted for several Beatles film and book projects, including the 2011 Martin Scorsese documentary: George Harrison - Living in the Material World.

The volume is intended as an introduction to the physical principles governing the main processes that occur in photosynthesis, with emphasis on the light reactions and electron transport chain. A unique feature of the photosynthetic apparatus is the fact that the molecular structures are known in detail for essentially all of its major components. The availability of this data has allowed their functions to be probed at a very fundamental level to discover the design principles that have guided evolution. Other volumes on photosynthesis have tended to focus on single components or on a specific set of biophysical techniques, and the authors’ goal is to provide new researchers with an intr...

Women in the Olympics

Women in the Olympics traces the history of women in the Olympic Games. This pocket book offers details about important milestones in Olympic history and illustrates the salient themes that have shaped women’s involvement in the Games. From ancient times to today, women have always had a tenuous position in the Olympics. When Pierre de Coubertin founded the modern Olympic Movement at the end of the nineteenth century, he did not include women in his vision. He viewed the Olympics as a way for boys to cultivate manliness and men to demonstrate masculinity. Women eventually overcame such prejudices and competed at 1900 Olympics. Despite their inclusion, they remained beset by roadblocks. Spo...

Natural and Artificial Photosynthesis

This technical book explores current and future applications of solar power as an unlimited source of energy that earth receives every day. Photosynthetic organisms have learned to utilize this abundant source of energy by converting it into high-energy biochemical compounds. Inspired by the efficient conversion of solar energy into an electron flow, attempts have been made to construct artificial photosynthetic systems capable of establishing a charge separation state for generating electricity or driving chemical reactions. Another important aspect of photosynthesis is the CO2 fixation and the production of high energy compounds. Photosynthesis can produce biomass using solar energy while reducing the CO2 level in air. Biomass can be converted into biofuels such as biodiesel and bioethanol. Under certain conditions, photosynthetic organisms can also produce hydrogen gas which is one of the cleanest sources of energy.
