Les études réunies dans les volumes 92 et 93 de BEV ont pour objectif de préciser les rapports entre Valéry et le monde allemand. Une partie des études s'attache à déterminer l'intérêt que Valéry a porté sur sa vie aux domaines de la culture allemande, ou à analyser, d'un point de vue historique, les vues de Valéry sur les relations franco-allemandes. Une autre partie de ces études analyses la question du rayonnement de Valéry dans les pays germanophones.
Paul Valéry: Zur Zeitgeschichte und Politik
Band 7 der Gesamtausgabe ist den zeit- und kulturkritischen Beiträgen vorbehalten, die Valéry vom ausgehenden 19. bis zur Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts verfasste. Die ersten beiden Essays, Eine methodische Eroberung (1897) sowie Krise des Geistes (1919), umklammern zeitlich wie thematisch die kriegstaumelnde Moderne: In ersterem verhandelt Valéry die Anwendung wissenschaftlicher Methodik auf die wirtschaftliche und kommerzielle Expansion von Staaten, deutschen Militarismus sowie zeitgenössische Entwicklungen in Japan und Italien; der zweite bezeugt im Nachhall des ersten Weltkriegs Valérys Bedenken hinsichtlich einer zu vergehen drohenden europäischen Kultur des Geistes und der Kunst. Es folgen die Sammlung Blicke auf die gegenwärtige Welt sowie weitere Texte zu eingeführten Themen und politischen Ereignissen.

Band 4 der Gesamtausgabe umfasst Essays, Reden, Vorworte und Briefe zu Wissenschaft und Philosophie. Die Textsammlung dokumentiert Valérys Auseinandersetzung mit Philosophen und Theoretikern wie Descartes und Pascal, deren Vorstellungen zu den Bausteinen seines eigenen Denkens gehörten; darüber hinaus legen die Schriften Valérys philosophische Ansätze dar. The left periphery of clausal structures has been a prominent topic of research in generative linguistics during the last decades. Closer examination of its properties unfolds a rich array of perspectives like the status of barriers for extraction and government, the articulation of the topic focus structure, the fixation of wh-scope, the marking of clausal types, the interaction of syntactic structure with inflectional morphology as well as the determination of sentence mood and illocutionary force to mention just a few. The purpose of this book is to collect different and relevant studies in this field and to give a general overview of the various theoretical approaches concerned with morphological, syntactic and semantic properties together with the diachronic development of the left periphery.
