Functionally Graded Materials: Analysis and Applications to FGM, FG-CNTRC and FG Porous Structures aims to disseminates knowledge between users, manufacturers, designers, and researchers involved in structures or structural components manufactured using functionally graded materials. Despite a number of existing texts on the theory and analysis of plates and/or shells, there is not a single book that is devoted entirely to the analysis of functionally graded-based materials including FGMs, FG-CNTRCs and FG porous plates and shells. Functionally Graded Materials provides the reader with current research conducted in the field of composite materials, numerical simulations, computer methods and mechanical responses of structural components under different scenarios. This book is a valuable reference source for postgraduate students, engineers, scientists, professors, researchers, and applied mathematicians in this field.
Computational techniques for the analysis and design of structural dynamic systems using numerical methods have been the focus of an enormous amount of research for several decades. In general, the numerical methods utilized to solve these problems include two phases: (a) spatial discretization by either the finite element method (FEM) or the finite difference method (FDM), and (b) solution of systems of time dependent second-order ordinary differential equations. In addition, the significantly powerful advances in computer systems capabilities have put on the desks of structural systems designers enormous computing power either by means of increasingly effective computer workstations or else through PCs (personal computers), whose increasing power has succeeded in marginalizing the computational power differences between PCs and workstations in many cases. This volume is a comprehensive treatment of the issues involved in computational techniques in structural dynamic systems.
Broad, up-to-date coverage of advanced vibration analysis by the market-leading author Successful vibration analysis of continuous structural elements and systems requires a knowledge of material mechanics, structural mechanics, ordinary and partial differential equations, matrix methods, variational calculus, and integral equations. Fortunately, leading author Singiresu Rao has created Vibration of Continuous Systems, a new book that provides engineers, researchers, and students with everything they need to know about analytical methods of vibration analysis of continuous structural systems. Featuring coverage of strings, bars, shafts, beams, circular rings and curved beams, membranes, plat...
Mechanics of Functionally Graded Material Structures is an authoritative and fresh look at various functionally graded materials, customizing them with various structures. The book is devoted to tailoring material properties to the needed structural performance. The authors pair materials with the appropriate structures based upon their purpose and use.Material grading of structures depending upon thickness, axial and polar directions are discussed. Three dimensional analysis of rectangular plates made of functional graded materials and vibrational tailoring of inhomogeneous beams and circular plates are both covered in great detail. The authors derive novel closed form solutions that can serve as benchmarks that numerical solutions can be compared to. These are published for the first time in the literature. This is a unique book that gives the first exposition of the effects of various grading mechanisms on the structural behavior as well as taking into account vibrations and buckling.
This manuscript comes from the experience gained over ten years of study and research on shell structures and on the Generalized Differential Quadrature method. The title, Mechanics of Laminated Composite Doubly-Curved Shell Structures, illustrates the theme followed in the present volume. The present study aims to analyze the static and dynamic behavior of moderately thick shells made of composite materials through the application of the Differential Quadrature (DQ) technique. A particular attention is paid, other than fibrous and laminated composites, also to “Functionally Graded Materials” (FGMs). They are non-homogeneous materials, characterized by a continuous variation of the mecha...
Graphene has already gained a unique reputation among novel synthetic materials. Dedicated efforts and enormous resources are being invested in creating viable commercial products. The high electrical and thermal conductivities in graphene are well known, and most of the applications of this material are pivoted to these properties. In addition to electronic and thermal management applications there are several other vital areas where graphene can be used successfully. This book is compiled in two volumes. Volume 1 is specifically meant for beginners who want to know the science and technology associated with this nanomaterial. This volume consists of chapters that are specifically written f...
Structural Vibration: Exact Solutions for Strings, Membranes, Beams, and Plates offers an introduction to structural vibration and highlights the importance of the natural frequencies in design. Computational Mechanics is the proceedings of the International Symposium on Computational Mechanics, ISCM 2007. This conference is the first of a series created by a group of prominent scholars from the Mainland of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese, who are very active in the field. The book includes 22 full papers of plenary and semi-plenary lectures and approximately 150 one-page summaries.
Topological Modelling of Nanostructures and Extended Systems completes and expands upon the previously published title within this series: The Mathematics and Topology of Fullerenes (Vol. 4, 2011) by gathering the latest research and advances in materials science at nanoscale. It introduces a new speculative area and novel concepts like topochemical reactions and colored reactive topological indices and provides a better understanding of the physical-chemical behaviors of extended systems. Moreover, a charming new family of space-filling fullerenic crystals is here analyzed for the first time. Particular attention is given to the fundamental influences exercised by long-range connectivity to...
