Substrate Integrated Suspended Line Circuits and Systems provides a systematic overview of the new transmission line - the substrate-integrated suspension line (SISL). It details the fundamentals and classical application examples of the SISL. The basic SISL concept and structure, various passive circuits and active circuits, and front-end sub-systems are systematically introduced. Featuring research on topics such as high-performance RF/microwave/mm-wave circuits and system, this book is ideal for researchers, engineers, scientists, scholars, educators, and students. Since transmission line is a fundamental component of microwave and mm-wave circuits, the properties of a transmission line, ...
This book presents a modified spherical harmonic expansion method in which the electromagnetic fields and their sources are expanded with the same set of spherical vector basis functions in a similar procedure. Explicit expressions for the electromagnetic fields, potentials, energies, and the related Green’s functions are derived for the spherical modes in both frequency domain and time domain. Based on the formulation, the relationships between the electromagnetic sources, the electromagnetic far fields, and the electromagnetic near fields are clearly revealed. In particular, a nonuniform transmission line model is developed for intuitively characterizing the total radiation process. The ...
This book focuses on the multi-beam phased array antenna as a satellite ground station. As there are already many excellent books on phased array antennas in the literature, this book focuses mainly on some engineering practices and fills the gap between principles and practices, such as array excitation error impact analysis and calibration methods, array geometry design for hemispherical coverage, multiple beam resource management, etc. This book is particularly suitable for readers interested in satellite constellation design or satellite ground station design. This book also benefits researchers and engineers in the fields of phased array antennas, aerospace engineering, telecommunications, etc.
The increasing demand for extremely high-data-rate communications has urged researchers to develop new communication systems. Currently, wireless transmission with more than one Giga-bits-per-second (Gbps) data rates is becoming essential due to increased connectivity between different portable and smart devices. To realize Gbps data rates, millimeter-wave (MMW) bands around 60 GHz is attractive due to the availability of large bandwidth of 9 GHz. Recent research work in the Gbps data rates around 60 GHz band has focused on short-range indoor applications, such as uncompressed video transfer, high-speed file transfer between electronic devices, and communication to and from kiosk. Many of th...
This book delves deeply into the substrate integrated suspended line antenna technologies and evaluates its potential to replace conventional three-dimensional (3D) metal-based antennas. Over the years, studies on substrate integrated suspended line antennas have captivated engineers and scientists from the antennas and related engineering fields, all aiming to achieve low-cost and low-loss characteristics. The book establishes a fundamental framework for this topic, while emphasizing the importance of substrate integrated suspended line antennas in the wireless communication and radar systems. It is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in antenna technology, researchers investigating substrate integrated technology, and antenna engineers working on low-cost and low-loss antennas and arrays.
Recent developments in soft-computation techniques have paved the way for handling huge volumes of data, thereby bringing about significant changes and technological advancements. The aim of the book is to disseminate cutting-edge developments taking place in the technological fields of intelligent systems and computer technology, thereby assisting researchers and practitioners from both institutions and industry to upgrade their knowledge of the latest developments and eme...
This book investigates in detail the antenna optimization method with binary coding and their applications to antenna design. It introduces the binary coding principle and optimization method, the method of binary coding corresponding to geometry structure. In further, the designs by binary coding optimization method of following items are introduced, including multi-frequency antenna based on binary coding, low profile RFID tag antenna on metal, wideband directional antenna with low profile, mmWave antenna and UWB antenna. Additionally, improved hexagon unit to antenna optimization by binary coding method is given, and a new method of antenna design based on optimization of linear motion trajectory is presented in the end. This book proposes an automatic optimization method of meshed antenna based on binary coding, reduce the artificial a priori influence and find the best antenna. The book is intended for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in antenna technology, researchers investigating high performance antenna, and antenna design engineers working on new antenna and the applications.
This book investigates in detail the generalized principle of the pattern multiplication (GPPM) and its application to new phased array with high performances. It introduces the generalized element factor (GEF) to small aperture with multi-modes. Based on the GEF, the GPPM can be used to construct the wide-angle scanning array with the dual-port phase mode antenna. Further, a dual-port phase mode SSPPs antenna is proposed to scan in 3D free space. It is extended to two kinds of 1D arrays with 4 elements; both of them perform good 3D scanning with high gain and large range, which will improve future radar design and wireless communication. This book proposes a new method to develop the potentialities of the GPPM and the new phase array. And the readers can study the method or ideas of the GEF, GPPM, even graft the methods to new phase mode antenna and array. It is intended for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in new phase mode antenna and array technology, researchers investigating high-performance antenna, and antenna design engineers working on phase array applications.
This book investigates in detail some new spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) structures and their applications to antenna. It introduces the working principle and radiation characteristics of directional antenna, omnidirectional antenna, reconfigurable antenna and phase-mode antenna based on SSPPs structure. Especially, the irregular SSPPs structure, such as T-shaped and m-shaped SSPPs structures, is introduced to low-profile end-fire antenna with vertical polarization; the rotated SSPPs structure is applied to CP end-fire antenna and omnidirectional antenna; PIN circuit combining with SSPPs structure is used to pattern reconfigurable antenna; the novel phase-mode SSPPs antennas with multi-modes are performed too. This book proposes a continuous method to develop the potentialities of the SSPPs antenna. And the readers can study the method or ideas of the SSPPs antenna, even graft the methods to other SSPPs antenna. The book is intended for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in SSPPs antenna technology, researchers investigating high-performance antenna, and antenna design engineers working on multi-function antenna applications.
