This book opens up new understandings of sexual harassment by bringing researchers, writers and policy makers in the Nordic region into dialogue within an ambitious volume. It asks what role juridical frameworks can and should play in prevention and raises questions about how the image of Nordic states – as gender equal, colour-blind and with strong welfare – affects the work against sexual harassment in the region. Re-imagining definitions of justice, violence, exploitation and work, this book offers knowledge of immediate importance for everyone working to prevent sexual harassment, through research, policy making or in everyday practice.
Preventing Sexual Harassment at Work
Available online: https://pub.norden.org/nord2024-018/ Sexual harassment at work is a challenge for the Nordic labour market and to the goal of creating an inclusive, gender equal and cohesive region. International and Nordic studies alike show that sexual harassment exists in all sectors of the labour market and that it has serious negative consequences. Therefore, the five Nordic gender equality ministers decided to allocate funding for new research on sexual harassment at work in the Nordic Region.The goal was predominantly to contribute towards new knowledge, with a focus on preventive measures and intervention methods. The research funding initiative was carried out 2021-2023 in collaboration between the Nordic sectors for gender equality, culture and working life and the Nordic Committee for Children and Young People. Health, well-being and life conditions of young LGBTI persons in the Nordic countries: A literature review and survey of efforts
Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2021-534/ Despite the fact that life conditions of LGBTI persons in the Nordic countries have changed in the last seventy years, major public health surveys indicate that this group suffers from an increased amount of mental and physical health issues compared to the rest of the population. Younger generations of LGBTI persons see their lives affected, too, by having a sexuality or gender identity that falls outside heteronormativity. The Nordic Council of Ministers, therefore, has initiated a project that aims to shed light on the well-being of young LGBTI persons. Nordic Information on Gender, NIKK, has carried out the project, which has resulted in the report at hand.
Climate, Gender and Consumption
Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2022-553/ Responsible production and consumption, Goal 12 of the 2030 Agenda, has been identified as one of the areas where the Nordic countries face the biggest challenges in their sustainable development work. The international research on the environmental impact of individuals’ consumption patterns shows that factors such as sex, income and ethnicity have great explanatory value, and that inequalities per se, leads to increased emissions from consumption.In the project “Sustainability, lifestyles, and consumption from a gender perspective” within the Sustainable lifestyles in the Nordic region programme, NIKK has produced a research overview that reveals and challenges gender stereotypes in relation to consumption and lifestyles relation to 1) Food, 2) Housing and energy, 3) Clothing and consumer goods, 4) Transport, 5) Work and time use, 6) Culture and tourism, 7) Activism and influence.

Young men’s mental ill-health in the Nordics
Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2023-549/ Mental ill-health is a significant social and public health problem in the Nordic countries. Studies also show that mental health problems have increased in the Nordic countries in recent years, particularly among young people. According to the studies included in this research overview, there are gender differences when it comes to mental ill-health. It is apparent that gender, sexuality and masculinity norms play an important role in how young men manage and experience their mental health. This overview focuses on knowledge about young men’s mental health in relation to current conditions and challenges in education and the workplace in the Nordic countries. The study also highlights knowledge about the impacts of the pandemic on young men’s mental health, where increased unemployment, distance teaching and isolation have risked reinforcing negative spirals in mental well-being.
