A fictional account in which Karen draws you back in to Mia's world after her first year in Iraq. She continues the drama with the sequel from her first book 'Desert Rose' about losing love, then finding love again in a war torn country. It also shows the mentality of a minority of people who still work in Iraq, who have devious, evil, vindictive minds and will stop at nothing just to make money; most importantly the book highlights the heros who would risk their own lives to love or protect you. The book also highlights areas that still are apparent to life in Iraq that people become complacent about and should always be aware of expecting the unexpected.

A fictional account of the trailer trash lifestyle for overseas contractors working in Iraq which explores and shows the devious people and the mentality of westerners who believe they are above the law. It also hits the nail on the head when highlighting corporate politics, office bullies, male vultures and what poisonous manipulative women can and will get away with just by simply using their vagina as a tool. Desert Rose also shows the rest of the world what life is like for a western woman working in a mans world, as well as the constant battle not to get drawn in to the sleazy world that westerners who not only lack shame with regards to how they conduct their behavior but also the shame they bring on to their own countries whilst been visitors in Iraq. The outside world will never get to see and hear about life as a contractor unless you work in this environment, or unless people start talking about it. Reading about life as a contractor through Mia's journey is as close to the truth as it gets.

Enabling Critical Pedagogy in Higher Education

An introduction to critical pedagogy for all those working within higher education. Critical Pedagogy is an approach that is fundamentally democratic, informal, non-hierarchical, determined by participants, privileges the oppressed and their perspectives and is committed to action. Higher education (HE), conversely, is often un-democratic, formal, hierarchical, determined by tutors and national bodies, re-inscribes existing privileges and is distant from lived experience. The book starts from the premise that critical pedagogies are possible in HE, while recognising the tensions to be ameliorated in trying to enact them. It re-examines the concept and explores its practical application at an...
