This book is a collection of Policy Briefs on the issue of reconstructing economic governance in resource-rich African countries. This is the first book that covers this particular issue. Many researches have been undertaken on the causes of conflict and violence in resource-rich African countries, but the particular point in this book is how to manage the economic affairs in these countries for the benefit of the people and on a long-term and sustainable basis. The term good economic governance is used for this type of management, and we have applied the concept to a number of African countries that are richly endowed with natural resources and have suffered from various forms and intensities of conflict.

Active Labour and Employment Policies in Africa
This fourth volume of the African Development Perspectives Yearbook gives a comprehensive account of the employment and labour situation in Africa and presents a coherent strategy of employment creation and poverty alleviation. A broad concept of active labour and employment policies for countries in sub-Saharan Africa is followed throughout this volume, emphasising not only the importance of employment-friendly macroeconomic and sectoral policies, but also the necessity of appropriate labour policies with regard to labour institutions, labour relations and labor conditions. In this context the new regional and international demands to redesign structural adjustment policies and development co-operation in order to lay greater emphasis on the employment issue are considered as well. Africa's Progress in Regional and Global Economic Integration - Towards Transformative Regional Integration
Based on Africa's deep routed structural problems, the key aspect of a transformative regional integration is how to promote structural transformation by adapted strategies and policies for the African regional economic communities, for the Continental Free Trade Area, and for the Tripartite Free Trade Area. Regional integration in Africa is based on a conventional (linear) model, starting with trade preference zones and moving to free trade areas, customs unions, and monetary and economic zones, with the ultimate goal to reach political unity. Specific problems of a more transformative regional integration agenda are discussed, such as: ?food security and agriculture; industry development, enterprise growth and competition; and economic partnership agreements with extra-regional partners.
