Mechanisms of Trust
This study examines the relationship between the media and the government in authoritarian regimes and Western democracies, focusing on how political structures affect the level of trust between the public and the news media. Surprisingly, Jan Müller finds that there is a higher level of trust among citizens of authoritarian regimes. To help reassert trust in the media, Müller argues that in democratic societies, a differentiated media system with interventions of the state to ensure plurality--in the form of public service media, for example--leads to trust in the news media.

James Robertson (1788/1792-ca. 1851) was born in Scotland. He married Lilias Muter (1795-1880) in 1810. They had nine children. In 1855, Lilias and five children emigrated to the United States, settling in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The Descendants of Aaron Milleman of Kingston, Rhode Island
Aaron Milleman (1680-1740) was probably born in Kent, England. He may have descended from Flemmish people who emigrated from Belgium. Aaron immigrated to America in about 1700 and settled in Rhode Island. He married Ann Case and they were the parents of three daughters. Well over seven thousand descendants of Aaron Milleman live throughout the United States.
