Body Image

Too fat, too thin. Muffin top, flat bum, thunder thighs, spaghetti arms. From an early age, kids learn they are judged for how they look. Both boys and girls are bombarded with messages of what they should look like and are shamed for not measuring up. When kids encounter conflict based on stereotypes of body image, they need the understanding and the tools to deal with the situation and not let it damage their self-esteem. This book provides information, relatable situations and opportunities for kids to explore cultural standards, their own assumptions and those of others. This accessible illustrated book offers information, quizzes, comics and real-life situations to help kids think critically about body image, how it influences how others see them and how they see themselves. Considered from the viewpoints of the Internalizer, who suffers from body-image issues, the Influencer, who perpetuates negative stereotypes and standards of body image and the Witness, with conflicts around body image, this issue is identified, examined and put into a context kids can use to navigate issues of shaming and self-esteem.

There has to be intimacy before intercession. Jesus calls us to develop an intimate relationship with Him and the Father by becoming frequent visitors before the throne. We must then ask ourselves the question, Are you known at the throne? The lesson in this book is very clear; we are not magicians before the throne, magically calling things into existence or naming it and claiming it by using the mighty name of Jesus. The spiritual war we should wage starts with believing God; this produces a spiritual connection when you engage the enemy through intercession. I call this coming into agreement with heaven and at this point Jesus Himself reaffirms with His Word.

Islamophobia

Today's kids have lived their whole lives in a world where the topic of religious belief has become a serious social issue. The media and social media are full of stereotypes and misinformation about Islam in particular, and this atmosphere of fear and distrust has entered the everyday life of kids. When kids encounter conflict based on intolerance, inequity and ignorance, they need the understanding and the tools to deal with the situation. Whether the reader is Muslim or not, Islamophobia: Deal with it in the name of peace provides information, relatable situations and opportunities for kids to explore both the assumptions of their own biases and those of others. This illustrated book offers information, quizzes, comics and real-life scenarios to help kids think critically about, avoid and deal with Islamophobia. Considered from the viewpoints of the Believer, the Intolerant, and the Bystander, this issue is identified, examined and put into a context kids can understand and use to navigate issues of faith-based prejudice and discrimination.

The Implications of COVID-19 for Children and Youth

This book captures a unique moment in time, relatively early into the COVID-19 pandemic, when the implications and consequences of the pandemic remained unclear and largely unpredictable. The contributors to this volume contemplate the impact of the pandemic on our relationships with children and youth, child and youth serving systems, and broader issues in society that directly relate to childhood and youth. The essays collected in this volume cover a variety of perspectives that range from systemic racism in child-serving institutions to the politics of childhood during a pandemic, and the psychological and even neurological impacts of lockdowns, public restrictions and social isolation.
