The Ruthwell Cross and its Texts
The Ruthwell Cross is one of the finest Anglo-Saxon high crosses that have come down to us. The longest epigraphic text in the Old English Runes Corpus is inscribed on two sides of the monument: it forms an alliterative poem, in which the Cross itself narrates the crucifixion episode. Parts of the inscription are irrevocably lost. This study establishes a historico-cultural context for the Ruthwell Cross’s texts and sculptures. Reassessing Alleged Runic Forgeries
One of the most well-known potential forgeries is SG-65 Kleines Schulerloch, which has provoked controversies and debates among scientists of various disciplines since its discovery. In this study an interdisciplinary grid of methods was developed and applied to the inscription of the Kleines Schulerloch in order to analyse its authenticity. Due to the approach new results could be made, leading to a revised edition entry of the inscription.

Die Germanische Altertumskunde Online wird – wie bereits das in ihr aufgegangene Reallexikon – durch Ergänzungsbände begleitet. Diese Reihe umfasst Monographien ebenso wie Sammelbände zu spezifischen Themen aus Archäologie, Geschichte und Literaturwissenschaft. Damit wird der Inhalt der Datenbank um jene Aspekte erweitert, die einer ausführlichen Analyse bedürfen. Inzwischen sind bereits mehr als 100 Bände erschienen von Germanenproblemen in heutiger Sicht bis zur Germanischen Altertumskunde im Wandel.
Planting the Seeds of Knowledge: An Inventory of Old English Plant Names
Old English had a large number of plant names: more than a thousand are attested. These are listed here, including parts of plants and products of plants. In the main list the following kinds of information are provided: the spelling (including spelling variants), the literal meaning, the etymology (native word or loan-word) and word-formation, equivalents in Modern English, in the Linnéan terminology, and in German, as well as the older Latin names. Cross-references to etymologically or semantically related names are also given. It is furthermore noted if the etymology or the identification of the plant is unclear. The main list is made more accessible and is supplemented by several indices and supplementary lists; these collect, for example, those Old English plant names that survive in Modern English, Old English names for fruits and products of plants, tree names, the Latin names according to the Linnéan system, the Modern English equivalents, and the Modern German equivalents.
Zwischen wissenschaftlicher Neugier und Gewinnstreben
Venedig und seine Handelsniederlassungen („Fondaci“) in Ägypten und in der Levante stellten bedeutende Kontaktzonen interkultureller Begegnungs- und Transferprozesse dar, in denen nicht nur Waren ausgetauscht wurden, sondern auch Informationen über religiöse und politische Grenzen hinweg zirkulierten. Als „go-betweens“ leisteten die an diesen „Fondaci“ tätigen Ärzte („medici di condotta“) einen wichtigen Beitrag zu den Begegnungsprozessen zwischen Europa und der islamischen Welt. Aufgrund ihrer vielfältigen Interessen sind die Druckwerke, Tagebücher und Briefe der „medici di condotta“ wertvolle Quellen, die sowohl den Wissenszuwachs in der Frühen Neuzeit eindrücklich vor Augen führen als auch christlich-muslimische Kulturkontakte in einer Zeit des Wandels dokumentieren.
