Building Sustainable Futures
The overall theme of the 2008 IPRA Global Conference focuses on the interaction between economic development, environmental change, conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts in the 21st century. The challenge is to re-search new futures. This collaborative book project ultimately reflects the constant evolution of Peace Studies as it is reflected in its expanding areas of research and the institutional structures which provide the vertebrae so that the former can develop with greater depth, continuity and sustainability. This is the reason why HumanitarianNet has teamed up with IPRA to produce this collection of articles.
Different Approaches to Peace and Conflict Research
The articles collected in this volume reflect a range of analyses of the different approaches to Peace and Conflict research. Whilst it is obvious that there can never be any easy answers to any of these challenges, it is, nevertheless, encouraging that so many young academics from several parts of the world should come together in Venice (San Nicólo Monastery, Lido, September 2006), under the aegis of the EDEN Network, to discuss their interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary work.

Peace, Conflict and Identity is the third book in the junior series of the EDEN (European Doctoral Enhancement Programme in Peace and Conflict Studies) and contains cuting edge research that was first delivered in a series of presentations by PhD students at two of the EDEN Intensive Programmes held at the universities of Deusto and Graz in 2007 and 2009 respectively.
