Jean Desmet and the Early Dutch Film Trade
The Netherlands Film Museum's Desmet Collection contains the estate of Dutch cinema owner and film distributor Jean Desmet (1875-1956): almost nine hundred European and American films of all genres, a collection of publicity material, and a massive business archive. These three sources form the basis of this book, the first comprehensive reconstruction of Desmet's career. From his nomadic beginnings as a traveling showman to his successful switch to permanent cinema operation and film distribution, Blom shows how Desmet's fortunes encapsulated a series of structural changes within the new culture of the cinema.

Aus Paulis letztem Lebensjahrzehnt sind über 2000 Briefe erhalten. Neben der Physik wird hier auch der allgemeinere geistesgeschichtliche Hintergrund unserer Naturwissenschaft beleuchtet. In einem ersten Teilband werden zunächst 430 Briefe aus diesem Bestand vorgelegt, die Pauli von 1950 bis 1952 mit 72 Personen austauschte. Im Zentrum dieser Briefe steht die von Pauli maßgeblich mitbestimmte physikalische Grundlagenforschung der frühen 50er Jahre. Daneben treten immer häufiger auch ideengeschichtliche Probleme in den Vordergrund. Im Glauben an einen psycho-physischen Wirklichkeitszusammenhang im Sinne der Kopenhagener Komplementaritätsidee hat Pauli diese Frage sowohl mit seinen physikalischen Kollegen als auch mit dem Psychologen C.G. Jung und dessen Schülern erörtert.

Spitfire VC vs A6M2/3 Zero-sen
Just weeks after Pearl Harbor, Darwin was mauled by a massive Japanese attack. Without a single fighter to defend Australian soil, the Australian government made a special appeal to Britain for Spitfires. A year later the Spitfire VC-equipped No 1 Fighter Wing, RAAF, faced the battle-hardened 202nd Kokutai of the IJNAF, equipped with A6M2 Zero-sens, over Darwin. This was a gruelling campaign between evenly matched foes, fought in isolation from the main South Pacific battlegrounds. Pilots on either side had significant combat experience, including a number of Battle of Britain veterans. The Spitfire had superior flight characteristics but was hampered by short range and material defects in the tropical conditions, while the Japanese employed better tactics and combat doctrine inflicting serious losses on the over-confident Commonwealth forces. Belgian Cinema
The recent centenary of the motion picture prompted the Belgian Royal Film Archive to compile an encyclopedia of the history of Belgian film. The country has produced a considerable cinematic output over the past hundred years, with a total of some 1,500 titles, including every imaginable genre, from documentaries to war films, romantic dramas, slapstick, animation, art movies and experimental films. This book is published in collaboration with the Royal Film Archive. The book contains a broad survey of 100 years of Belgian cinema history, from masterpieces of silent filmmaking to recent highlights like the 1992 film Daens. This comprehensive, easy-to-use, and attractively illustrated reference work is an important scholarly addition to all serious film libraries.
