Photosynthesis
Plant productivity depends upon the photosynthetic conversion of the light energy into chemical energy stored in the biomass of plants. An intermediate step in this energy conversion process is electron transfer and proton translocation. At present, several research groups are working on projects that are expected to lead to rapid improvement of our understanding of the photosynthetic process. This book is a compilation of the work being done on the applications of molecular biology and bioenergetics of photosynthesis.

During the summer of 1974 we discussed the state of molecular biology and biochemical developmental biology in plants on a few occasions in Paris and in Strasbourg. The number of laboratories engaged in such research is minute compared with those studying comparable problems in animal and bacterial systems, but by then much interesting work had been done and a great momentum was building. Molecular Biology of Plants
Molecular Biology of Plants presents the formal scientific presentations delivered on the symposium on plant molecular biology, held at the University of Minnesota in 1976. The topics in this book are organized around the central dogma of molecular biology. Section I describes the organization and replication of DNA in plant chromosomes, including chloroplast genomes; Section II discusses molecular aspects of transcription and translation, ribosomal RNA gene systems and hormonal control of protein synthesis.
