This book is about conflicts between different stakeholder groups triggered by protected species that compete with humans for natural resources. It presents key ecological features of typical conflict species and mitigation strategies including technical mitigation and the design of participatory decision strategies involving relevant stakeholders. The book provides a European perspective, but also develops a global framework for the development of action plans.
Atlas of Ecosystem Services
This book aims to identify, present and discuss key driving forces and pressures on ecosystem services. Ecosystem services are the contributions that ecosystems provide to human well-being. The scope of this atlas is on identifying solutions and lessons to be applied across science, policy and practice. The atlas will address different components of ecosystem services, assess risks and vulnerabilities, and outline governance and management opportunities. The atlas will therefore attract a wide audience, both from policy and practice and from different scientific disciplines. The emphasis will be on ecosystems in Europe, as the available data on service provision is best developed for this region and recognizes the strengths of the contributing authors. Ecosystems of regions outside Europe will be covered where possible.

The world is facing a crisis of unimagined proportions. Climate collapse and Corona are presenting us with challenges that could not even have been imagined just a few years ago. Terms like "debt brake" or "black zero" seem out of time. While the world is hunting for a vaccine, long suppressed grievances suddenly become visible. We are accustomed to a world of waste and prosperity and hardly notice that in Germany eight percent of farms manage more than half of all agricultural land and thus also collect the lion's share of EU subsidies.
