Annotated Bibliography of Helminths of Waterfowl (Anatidae)

  • Type: Book
  • -
  • Published: 1969
  • -
  • Publisher: Unknown

This bibliography is an attempt to list all the publications dealing with helminth of waterfowl (Anatidae) -- reports of their occurrence, descriptions, classification, life history, and pathological effects. It brings up-to-date and revises the work published on microfilm in 1965 (Wildlife Disease, No. 45). Studies on prophylaxis and treatment and on physiology, and general manuals and texts on poultry diseases are omitted. Publications issued before 1890 (numbering about 120) are also omitted as the information in many of these is incomplete and the identification dubious.

Lake Baikal and Its Life

Lake Baikal and Its Life

Baikai is the deepest lake on earth and one of the most ancient. The pronounced endemism and specific wealth of its fauna andflora has attracted the keen interest of biologists and biogeographers all over the world. A start on the Baikai studies was made more than 200 years ago, but they have been carried on with the greatest intensity in the last 30 to 40 years, and more than 1,000 scientific works devoted to it have appeared in this period. Hence there is an urgent need for a summary of the main results of more than 200 years' study of one of the most remarkable lakes of our planet, and this the author has endeavoured to provide. A zoologist and hydrobiologist hirnself, he has concentrated on the living world of the lake. The author has for many years worked at Baikai as head of the Biologo-Geographical Institute and the Baikai Biological Station of Irkutsk University. In preparing this book for the press the author has received invaluable assistance from cartographer N.V. TYUMEN TSEV, algologists N.L. ANTIPOVAandO. M. KOZHOVA, hydrobiologists G. L. VASILYEVA, G. J. SHNYAGINA, L. J. PROTASOVA and R. A.

This third volume of Keys to Parasitic Nematodes is devoted to the largest suborder of nematodes - the strongylates. The strongylates include extremely pathogenic helminths which in a number of cases cause serious disease in man and in farm and commercial animals, often with a fatal outcome. Examples of these are anchylostomiasis and necatoriasis in man, delafondiasis and alfortiasis of horse, hemonchiasis and chabertiasis of sheep and dogs, bunostomiasis of cattle, hyostrongylosis of swine, etc. Due to the pathogenicity of the strongylates, it is natural that veterinarians and physicians, as well as biologists, should wish to familiarize themselves with the classification of these helminths...

Flynn's Parasites of Laboratory Animals

Prepared under the auspices of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, this second edition has been thoroughly updated and revised to improve utility and readability. The book is now organized by vertebrate host species, with parasites presented phylogenetically within chapters. Additional highlights of this edition include introductory chapters on modern diagnostic techniques and parasite biology, and a new appendix features a complete drug formulary. The well-presented and extensively illustrated volume addresses all aspects of laboratory animal parasites. Regarded as the most comprehensive and authoritative work available on the topic, this book is an essential reference for veterinary parasitologists, clinicians, students and laboratory animal scientists.
