Kosmos
'Kosmos' is the word the ancient Greeks used for human social order. It has therefore a special application to the Greeks' peculiar social and political unit of communal life that they called the 'polis'. Of the many hundreds of such units in classical Greece the best documented and the most complex was democratic Athens. The purpose of this collective 1998 volume is to re-evaluate the foundations of classical Athens' highly successful experiment in communal social existence. Topics addressed include religion and ritualization, political friendship and enmity, gender and sexuality, sports and litigation, and economic and symbolic exchange. The book aims to make a major contribution, theoretical as well as empirical, towards understanding how the social order of community life may be sustained and enhanced.

Kosmos is Eternal (Spiritual) Egg and Womb or Matri-Padma, Mother Lotus, of all Worlds to be. Cosmos is the Periodical (Mundane) Egg of our World fructified, yet immaculate, when a ray from the First Logos flashes from the latent Germ in the Heart of the Eternal. Kosmos is ever-concealed, unknown and unknowable noumena. Cosmos is perceptions and visible phenomena after a “Night of Brahma.” Kosmos is the “Father” Concealed and Unmanifested, the “Unknown God” of the Athenians. Cosmos is Plato’s Second God, giving birth to a “Son” or Universe.

Kosmos: A Portrait of the Russian Space Age
The inherent contradictions of the Space Age -- the mixture of technologies high and low, of nostalgia and progress, of pathos and promise -- are revealed in Kosmos, Adam Bartos's astonishing photographic survey of the Soviet space program. Bartos's fascination with this subject led him to seek out places like the bedroom where Yuri Gagarian slept the night before his history-making flight into space, located in the Baiknour Cosmodrome, the one-time top-secret space complex in the Kazakh desert. The subject of KOSMOS in the Aegean Bronze Age includes jewellery, costume, aesthetics, body adornment, colours, pigments, and textiles. The reason for this choice of subject was our wish to merge the textile research carried out currently at the Danish National Research Foundations Centre for Textile Research, with the major research topic of Robert Laffineur, jewellery. This KOSMOS volume addresses the issues of textile production, costumes, dyes and pigments, colours, jewellery, aesthetics, body adornment, luxury and exotic items, gender and femininity/masculinity, as well as their social, religious, ideological, economic, technological, administrative and philological connections. In the Bronze Age, men, women and children would dress in garments, wear jewellery and adorn themselves to express their gender, age and status.

Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact.
