Mempelajari kosmologi dari sisi spiritual memiliki tujuan berbeda dengan kosmologi dalam ranah sains. Meskipun terdapat berbagai elemen yang sama dengan sains modern, tujuan mempelajari kosmologi dari sisi rohani (spiritual) adalah untuk mempertajam daya beda manusia bahwa ia sesungguhnya berbeda dengan alam. Samkhya adalah ilmu dasar bagi siapa pun yang serius ingin mencapai pembebasan dari penderitaan di alam fana ini.
