Esseemuotoinen tutkielma on intellektuaalinen omaelämäkerta, elämänvaiheet taustakuvana. Teos koostuu kahdesta yhteen liittyvästä aihepiiristä ja osiosta: Ensimmäinen, Ympäristöestetiikan tulevaisuus, kuvaa nykymuotoisen ympäristöestetiikan muotoutumista, menetelmiä, ohjelmia ja kohteita sekä suhteita ympäristötieteisiin ja ympäristönmuutosten aiheuttamiin paineisiin. Mihin jo avatut polut tieteenalan johtavat, millaisia uusia avauksia on odotettavissa? Toinen, Esteettinen ympäristösivistys, käsittelee manifestin luonteisesti yksilön ja yhteiskunnan pyrkimystä hyvään elämään. Tavoitteeksi asettuu globaali, planetaarinen esteettinen sivistys. Puolikkaat yhdistämällä hahmottuu ympäristöestetiikan suuri kuva ja tiekartta. Tutkielma on ajatuskulkujen jäsentämistä ja tiivistämistä mutta myös tarkistamista ja uudistamista spiraalimaista kehää nousten. Näin kirjoittaja on uudelleenlukemassa ja päällekirjoittamassa tuotantoaan, tähtäimessä omapohjainen ja näkemyksellinen synteesi.
