Green Building Products

Interest in sustainable, green building practices is greater than ever. Whether concerned about allergies, energy costs, old-growth forests, or durability and long-term value, homeowners and builders are looking for ways to ensure that their homes are healthy, safe, beautiful and efficient. In these pages are descriptions and manufacturer contact information for more than 1,400 environmentally preferable products and materials. All phases of residential construction, from sitework to flooring to renewable energy, are covered. Products are grouped by function, and each chapter begins with a discussion of key environmental considerations, and what to look for in a green product. Over 40% revis...

Thin Film Transistors 10 (TFT 10)

This special issue of ECS Transactions is for the 20th anniversary of the Thin Film Transistor (TFT) symposium series. Renowned TFT experts in related materials, processes, devices, and applications from the world serve as invited speakers to review the technology and science progress in the past two decades. Selected contributed papers are also included in this issue.

Chaos and Complexity in Nonlinear Electronic Circuits

Chaos and Complexity in Nonlinear Electronic Circuits

The basic procedures for designing and analysing electronic systems are based largely on the assumptions of linear behavior of the system. Nonlinearities inherent in all real applications very often cause unexpected and even strange behavior. This book presents an electronic engineer's perspective on chaos and complex behavior. It starts from basic mathematical notions which enable understanding of the observed phenomena, and guides the reader through the methodology and tools used in the laboratory and numerical experiments to interpretation and explanation of basic mechanisms. On typical circuit examples, it shows how the theoretical and empirical developments can be used in practice. Attention is drawn to applications of chaotic circuits as noise generators and the possible use of synchronized chaotic systems in information transmission and encryption. Chaos control is considered as a new, emerging area where electronic equipment and chaos theory could turn vital in biomedical and engineering issues.

Nonlinear Phenomena Research Perspectives

Non-linear, or chaotic behaviour in real world systems has been reported in electronic circuits and communications systems, chemical reactions, biological behaviour. Applications include solitons, integrable systems, cellular automata, pattern formation, qualitative structure and bifurcation theory, onset of chaos and turbulence, analytic dynamics, and transport phenomena. This book presents important new research in this dynamic field.

A collection of different lectures presented by experts in the field of nonlinear science provides the reader with contemporary, cutting-edge, research works that bridge the gap between theory and device realizations of nonlinear phenomena. Representative examples of topics covered include: chaos gates, social networks, communication, sensors, lasers, molecular motors, biomedical anomalies, stochastic resonance, nano-oscillators for generating microwave signals and related complex systems. A common theme among these and many other related lectures is to model, study, understand, and exploit the rich behavior exhibited by nonlinear systems to design and fabricate novel technologies with super...
