Development of environmentally friendly products gains an increasing - portance in science and in industry. While product development was strongly dedicated to achieve quality, cost and time targets, environmental issues indirectly had always been under consideration by engineers, see Fig. 1. Furthermore a methodology for the development of environm- tally sound products was missing. Despite of significant progress in using computer aided tools for product development and design, environmental aspects were attended. Computer aided tools typically do not include methods for considering environmental issues enabling the designer to - sess a product’s environmental effects. Fig. 1. Vision of ...
The world around us is changing. We are constantly faced with challenges related to the environment, technology and inequality. How can design and design research help in addressing these issues? With the help of design, companies and organisations can tackle complex challenges that lie ahead, thereby also facilitating change. This book offers inspiring examples and practical tools for taking the first steps of change in our rapidly transforming operating environment. The content also introduces opportunities that design research can offer, as well as prompting new insights for change work in the reader’s own organisation. Join us in taking a step towards change! The book’s authors include 30 professors, teachers and researchers at Aalto University.
This is an open access book. This book comprises all the single courses given as part of the First Summer School on Process Mining, PMSS 2022, which was held in Aachen, Germany, during July 4-8, 2022. This volume contains 17 chapters organized into the following topical sections: Introduction; process discovery; conformance checking; data preprocessing; process enhancement and monitoring; assorted process mining topics; industrial perspective and applications; and closing.
Among animals used in research, teaching and testing, mice are now widely recognized as the most important model for human diseases and disorders. They comprise the majority of all experimental mammals and tend to be the model of choice used for research into many diseases/disorders including cancer, heart disease, asthma, Alzheimer's, Down syndrome, deafness, osteoporosis, obesity, diabetes and even mental health research. Additionally the laboratory mouse continues to play a widely publicized vital role in the human genome project. One of the most time-consuming activities in research laboratories is looking up information specific to the species or strain of animal being used. This book, part of the highly successful Handbook of Experimental Animals series, allows the user quick access to any point of interest on the mouse as an experimental model.* Edited by Hans Hedrich, Hannover Medical School* Comprehensive reference source written by international experts* Well-illustrated with high quality detailed images* Two-color, user-friendly format combined with color plate sections
This book collects contributions of forefront research and practices related to the use of the enabling technologies of Industry 4.0 in the architecture and design fields and their impact on the UN's Sustainable Developments goals. The book is structured into three sections (research, practice, and technologies), with the goal of creating a new framework useful for widespread awareness necessary to initiate technology transfer processes for the benefit of the public sector, universities, research centers, and innovative companies, and a new professional figure capable of controlling the entire process is essential. Thus, the book chapters arouse a series of relevant topics such as computatio...
This detailed book delves into the diverse techniques and applications to target, isolate, image, phenotype, and analyze tissue-resident and monocyte-derived macrophages. The contents aim to describe the current knowledge about macrophage development and function which forces the scientific field to move beyond the previously described M1/M2 macrophage paradigm to be able to dissect macrophage functions within their specific niches during health and disease. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step and readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Thorough and practical, Tissue-Resident Macrophages: Methods and Protocols provides scientists entering the macrophage field with information and tools that allow them to dive into the state-of-the-art methodology used in this vital field.
Her book also provides overwhelming evidence of German scientists' conscious misrepresentation after the war of their wartime activities. In this regard, Deichmann's capsule biography of Konrad Lorenz is particularly telling.
