Semantics of Systems of Concurrent Processes
This volume contains the proceedings of the 1990 Spring School of Theoretical Computer Science, devoted to the semantics of concurrency. The papers are of two kinds: - surveys and tutorials introducing the subject to novices and students and giving updates of the state of the art, - research papers presenting recent achievements in the semantics of concurrency. The contributions explicate the connections, similarities and differences between various approaches to the semantics of concurrency, such as pomsets and metric semantics, event structures, synchronization trees, fixpoints and languages, traces, CCS and Petri nets, and categorical models. They also cover and compare the various notions of observation and bisimulation equivalences, logics for concurrency, and applications to dis- tributed systems.

Rewriting Techniques and Applications
This volume contains the proceedings of RTA-93, the fifth International Conference on Rewriting Techniques and Applications, held in Montreal, Canada, in June 1993. The volume includes three invited lectures, "Rewrite techniques in theorem proving" (L. Bachmair), "Proving properties of typed lambda terms: realizability, covers, and sheaves" (J. Gallier), and "On some algorithmic problems for groups and monoids" (S.J. Adian), together with 29 selected papers, 6 system descriptions, and a list of open problems in the field. The papers covermany topics: term rewriting; termination; graph rewriting; constraint solving; semantic unification, disunification and combination; higher-order logics; and theorem proving, with several papers on distributed theorem proving, theorem proving with constraints and completion.
CAAP '88
This volume contains the proceedings of the 13th Colloquium on Trees in Algebra and Programming (CAAP '88), held in Nancy, March 21-24, 1988. The preceding 12 colloquia were held in France, Italy and Germany. CAAP '85 and CAAP '87 were integrated into the International Joint Conference on Theory and Practice of Software Development, TAPSOFT (see Lecture Notes in Computer Science volumes 185 and 249). As another effort to link theory and practice in computer science, CAAP '88 was held in conjunction with the European Symposium on Programming, ESOP '88 (see volume 300 of this Lecture Notes series). CAAP '88 is a conference in the area of program development and programming concepts but, following the tradition, is devoted to theoretical aspects, and especially to Trees, a basic structure of computer science. A wider range of topics in theoretical computer science is also covered. The papers are on word, tree or graph languages, with algorithmic or complexity studies, on abstract data types (another classical topic of CAAP) and/or term rewriting systems and on non-standard logics, and parallelism and concurrency.
Automata, Languages and Programming
This volume contains the proceedings of the 14th International Colloquium on Automata Languages and Programming, organized by the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS) and held in Karlsruhe, July 13-17, 1987. The papers report on original research in theoretical computer science and cover topics such as algorithms and data structures, automata and formal languages, computability and complexity theory, semantics of programming languages, program specification, transformation and verification, theory of data bases, logic programming, theory of logical design and layout, parallel and distributed computation, theory of concurrency, symbolic and algebraic computation, term rewriting systems, cryptography, and theory of robotics. The authors are young scientists and leading experts in these areas.
