The Pink Badge Of Courage

This is the true story of a young mother who prevailed through three cancer diagnoses and treatments (breast cancer twice and melanoma once). It describes how she juggled cancer treatments with the many other daily demands of working full-time and mothering. The story is set against the backdrop of a close friendship in which two women, both touched by disease and tragedy, gain strength from each other. The narrative takes us through the friend's death, and the author's attempt to come to terms with this loss. The author's feelings about her cancer experiences are mirrored in her evolving view of a pair of pink-ribbon earrings that come to represent a badge of courage for her. Finally, the author describes the closure that she has attained following her family's relocation to her hometown, and she offers several lessons that she learned from these cancer experiences.

Poetry. Winner of the 2019 Richard Snyder Memorial Publication Prize. "The poems in MIDWEST GOTHIC make the daily deliciously strange--'the daily / which isn't still at all but a whirring / gone deep.' They make us work our way inside them, but once I entered this book, I didn't want to leave. I wanted to stay in 'the copper-tipped town;' I wanted to stay with the delphinium, 'a choir of indigo, ' and 'cornfields made surreal / in the dark.' These difficult times have tested my faith in many things, including language, and MIDWEST GOTHIC arrived just in time to remind me what poems can do."--Maggie Smith

Poetry. "Lovely and urgent in their strangeness, the poems in Laura Donnelly's Watershed conjure spaces to dwell in and return to, spaces of astonishment held by a deft ear for inner experience and a numinous power to sense back toward the ancestral, never 'forgetting even our not-knowing,' and calling upon us 'to grasp / barefoot the breakwaters / and fossil ourselves to that wall.' To read these lyrics is to want to flesh out and stay here, woven into her artful and sensitive music—'to move through this world in waves, my love—it's a wonder we cross paths at all'—and yet WATERSHED leads us to the precipice of that wonder again and again."—Jennifer K. Sweeney "These poems by Laura D...

Praise for "Nature Printing" " Stuff you usually compost or toss out with nary a second thought could actually be transformed into things of beauty. "Nature Printing is" simple and you don't have to have much in the way of esoteric or expensive materials to make frame-worthy prints, handmade stationery, or gift wrap." --Newsday "I mastered one project after a five minute flip through the book. The photos and drawings are wonderfully easy to follow. I proceeded to decorate every envelope in the house. I couldn't stop! My daughter and I stamped through the entire house." --Darragh Doiron in the Port Arthur (TX) News "Just looking at "this book" makes you want to collect supplies and get to wor...

Food Security

For a number of reasons, the global food supply is not as stable as it has been historically. The global population continues to grow, while catastrophic weather events like floods and droughts have an increasingly detrimental effect on crops around the world. Various political factors also impact food security, including violent conflicts within and between countries, trade wars and tariffs, and contentious decisions regarding which crops to subsidize. The viewpoints in this volume explore the causes of food insecurity around the world while also presenting potential solutions that could stabilize food supply at a local and global level.

Exeunt

In 2020, for the first time in centuries, heavy red curtains swept closed on stages across the West End; all theatres were closed. Two actors, keenly feeling the loss of their theatre homes, turned to a form of art that could still thrive over the following months, and set about photographing the stage doors of the deserted city. An extraordinary collaborative project almost two years in the making, Exeunt – The Stage Door Project collects together these moving images, alongside anecdotes from some of the world’s leading luminaries who have trodden the boards of the pictured theatres. A tribute to the magical nature of the stage door and the tales lurking behind it, Exeunt is a celebrati...
