City Voices is the first showcase of postwar Hong Kong literature originating in English. Fiction, poetry, essays and memoirs from more than 70 authors are featured to demonstrate 'the rich variety and vitality of the city's literary production'. Together with work from established authors, both bilingual writers who choose to write in English and expatriate authors who have made Hong Kong their home, a section of 'New Voices' introduces the work of unknown and young writers who are part of today's surge of new creativity.
The Dancer and the Dance is a collection of thirteen essays in translation studies. Unlike many similar collections that have appeared in the past decades, it is the product of theory integrated with practice; in it, the authors have steered clear of theorizing in a vacuum, making sure that their findings tally with what actually happens in translation; there is no attempt at putting forward hypotheses based on mere speculation. As translation theorists and/or translators whose specialties cover translation studies, linguistics, cultural studies, computer-aided translation, Chinese literature, English literature, comparative literature, and creative writing, the thirteen authors have taken up the challenge of unravelling the mystery of what, in I. A. Richards’s words, “may very probably be the most complex type of event yet produced in the evolution of the cosmos.” Impossible as the task may have seemed, they have all succeeded, each in his/her own way, in tracing out many warp and weft threads, as well as hitherto undiscovered patterns in the vast, gorgeous, and mysterious tapestry woven by God after Babel.
The book witnesses and chronicles the 90 years wherein the University of Hong Kong and its graduates were intimately engaged in the development of Hong Kong.

The dominant view of many linguists and educators has been that Hong Kong English is a variety of the language that is derived from, and dependent on, the metropolitan norm of British English. It has been argued that English in Hong Kong was never 'nativized' as in other Asian societies, and that it has not deserved the recognition accorded to other varieties of Asian English. The contributions to this book challenge that view in a number of ways. In addressing sociolinguistic, structural, and literary issues, they provide an up-to-date survey of current use of Hong Kong English, and redress the question of its autonomy in terms of both distinctive linguistic features and the growing literary creativity of the variety. An original and highly informed discussion on the futures for Hong Kong English, and chapters providing additional resources for the study of the variety, are also included.
Curriculum as Cultural Practice aims to revitalize current discourses of curriculum research and reform from a postcolonial perspective.
This book argues for computer-aided collaborative country research based on the science of complex and dynamic systems. It provides an in-depth discussion of systems and computer science, concluding that proper understanding of a country is only possible if a genuinely interdisciplinary and truly international approach is taken; one that is based on complexity science and supported by computer science. Country studies should be carefully designed and collaboratively carried out, and a new generation of country students should pay more attention to the fast growing potential of digitized and electronically connected libraries. In this frenzied age of globalization, foreign policy makers may – to the benefit of a better world – profit from the radically new country studies pleaded for in the book. Its author emphasizes that reductionism and holism are not antagonistic but complementary, arguing that parts are always parts of a whole and a whole has always parts.
Where Theory and Practice Meet is a collection of nineteen papers in translation studies. Unlike many similar books published in recent decades, which are mostly non-translation-oriented, veering to issues with little or no relevance to translation, this book focuses on the translation process, on theory formulation with reference to actual translation, on getting to grips with translation problems, and on explaining translation in language which can be understood by the general reader.
