Nanostructured Materials
There continues to be a worldwide interest in the size-dependent properties of nanostructured materials and their applications in many diverse fields such as catalysis, sensors, energy conversion processes, and biomedicine to name a few. The eleven chapters of this book written by different researchers include four chapters on the different methods of fabrication of specific materials followed by characterization of their properties, and the remaining seven chapters focusing on the fabrications and applications including three chapters on biomedical applications, two chapters on sensors, one chapter on solar cells, and one chapter on the use of nanoparticles in herbicides. These chapters provide up-to-date reviews useful for current and future researchers in these specific areas.
Information Technology in Disaster Risk Reduction
This volume constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the Third IFIP TC 5 DCITDRR International Conference on Information Technology in Disaster Risk Reduction, ITDRR 2018, held as part of the 24th IFIP World Computer Congress, WCC 2018, in Poznan, Poland, in September 2018. The 12 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 32 submissions. The papers focus on various aspects and challenges of coping with disaster risk reduction. The main topics include areas such as natural disasters, big data, cloud computing, Internet of Things, mobile computing, emergency management, disaster information processing, and disaster risk assessment and management.
Human-Computer Interaction
This four volume set provides the complete proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction held June, 2003 in Crete, Greece. A total of 2,986 individuals from industry, academia, research institutes, and governmental agencies from 59 countries submitted their work for presentation at the conference. The papers address the latest research and development efforts, as well as highlight the human aspects of design and use of computing systems. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) combines continuum and discrete theories for fluid modeling with computational algorithms for fluid simulation. It is an important research area since there is a wide range of natural phenomena that can be modeled through fluid theory. Some common engineering examples are pumps, fans, turbines, airplanes, ships, rivers, windmills, pipes, and more recently, the hemodynamics of the arterial system. The Belt and Road Initiative
This book is an analysis of the developments associated with the Belt and Road Initiative (B&RI) five years after Xi Jinping announced both the Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) and the 21st Maritime Silk Road (21MSR). Together, these two dimensions constitute the B&RI, providing the so-called Chinese ‘project of the century’ with regional, inter-regional and global reach. This book aims at assessing the impact of the B&RI in all these dimensions and levels of influence. This is a current and promising theme, not only in the short and medium terms, but also within a broader timescale, reflecting Chinese strategic thinking itself, since Chinese philosophy and culture are oriented towards long-term and inter-generational perspectives. Likewise, both the title of this publication and the way it has been organized result from the empirical perception that China asserts a conservative attitude towards foreign affairs, redesigned in multiple dimensions, to create a perception of domestic unity and global prestige. In this vein of thought, the B&RI is already influencing and will continue to influence, directly or indirectly, the current economic and political order.
