Postmigration, Transculturality and the Transversal Politics of Art
This is the first book to develop a postmigrant analytical perspective for the study of art, concentrating on how postmigration reopens the study of contemporary art and migration. The book introduces art historians and other scholars with a methodological interest in cultural analysis to the innovative concept of postmigration, offering a comprehensive introduction to the various meanings and uses of the term as well as translating it methodologically to an art historical context. The book analyses art projects from Denmark, Germany and Great Britain, which address some of the current challenges to European societies of immigration, and by drawing on theory from fields such as migration studies, transcultural studies and feminist, postcolonial and political theory, as well as re-engaging established concepts such as imagination, commemoration, belonging, identity, racialization, community, public space and participation. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, art and politics, migration studies, and transcultural studies.

Mediating Historical Responsibility brings together leading scholars and new voices in the interdisciplinary fields of memory studies, history, and cultural studies to explore the ways culture, and cultural representations, have been at the forefront of bringing the memory of past injustices to the attention of audiences for many years. Universal – International – Global
This collection of articles explores a possible alternative beginning of Global Art History and World Art Studies, two methodologies that set a worldwide focus in the study of art around the 2000s. Teaching back to earlier efforts to conceive of the international community in a less Eurocentric way, the volume proposes a tentative link between socialist internationalism as a political and cultural diplomatic principle in the Soviet Block and some new approaches to art and cultural historiography introduced there. In the "Second World", universal art history or Weltkunstgeschichte were endorsed as frameworks for the teaching and writing of art history. Authors in this book interrogate whether "world art history" as practiced by socialist scholars had aspirations and achievements comparable to today's Global Art History and World Art Studies. Die künstlerischen Arbeiten von Marta Minujín und Luis Felipe Noé nehmen eine zentrale Position in der argentinischen Kunst von den 1960er Jahren bis heute ein. Lena Geuer widmet sich mit der Frage nach der ¿Arte argentino? kritisch dem Verhältnis von Kunst und Nation und lotet aus einer postkolonialen und sinnlich-materiellen Perspektive das Spannungsfeld zwischen Ästhetik, Identität und Politik aus. Zugleich wird ¡Arte argentino! auch als Feststellung verhandelt, wodurch Genealogie und Kanon einer eurozentrischen Kunstgeschichtsschreibung ins Wanken und die bildende Kunst in Bewegung geraten.

Der Islam in Deutschland unterliegt einer diskursiven Dynamik, die muslimisches Leben immer wieder als problematischen Gegenspieler westlicher Kultur und Zivilisation entwirft. Imad Mustafa spürt anhand von Parteiprogrammen und Debatten auf Bundes- und Landesebene seit 2015 der Konstruktion dichotomer Differenzordnungen nach. Damit stellt er nicht nur die dominierenden Deutungsmuster im Parteiensystem hinsichtlich Islam und Muslim*innen heraus, sondern zeigt auch Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen den Parteien auf.
[EXP]OSITION - Die Ausstellung als Existenzweise
Was zeichnet eine (Kunst-)Ausstellung aus? Und was kann es heißen, wenn wir diese nicht nur als eine ›institutionelle Ansammlung von Dingen‹ begreifen, sondern die Ausstellung ›ökologisch‹ verstehen - d.h. ihre ganz spezifischen Milieus, Praktiken und situativen Konfigurationen in den Fokus rücken? Svetlana Chernyshova nimmt eine ontologische Verschiebung vor, indem sie die Ausstellung als eine Existenzweise - [EXP]osition - herausstellt und diese als ein Resultat von vielfältigen ›Metastabilisierungen‹ begreift. Auf der Grundlage von acht Parametern entsteht so ein Modell, welches das komplex-synthetische Phänomen Ausstellung systematisch in seinen Ebenen verhandelbar macht. Dabei rücken neben deren ästhetischen und epistemologischen Bedingungen auch die politischen Implikationen ins Blickfeld und zeigen: Ausstellungen lassen sich diffraktiv denken.
