Money in Asia (1200 – 1900): Small Currencies in Social and Political Contexts
Money in Asia examines two chronic problems that faced early modern monetary economies in East, South, and Southeast Asia: The inability to provide sufficient amounts of small currencies to facilitate local economic transactions and to control currency depreciation. The studies in this volume analyze the social and economic consequences of small currency scarcity and devaluation on various Asian economies and show how various regimes tried to manage these ever-present challenges. Treating Insomnia with Chinese Medicine
Treating insomnia is often approached from either a western psychological and medicinal perspective or from a Chinese medicine perspective. This clinical guide successfully synergises both approaches and allows acupuncturists and Chinese medicine practitioners the opportunity to provide an integrated treatment plan which also addresses the management of co-morbidities. The first half of this book presents the latest knowledge and research around insomnia from the perspective of Western medicine and psychology whilst the second section presents a synthesis of over 500 clinical experience reports published by Chinese medicine clinicians. The latter half includes a focus on diagnostic approaches, treatment modalities and the therapeutic aspects clinicians should consider in their treatment of insomnia, all modified depending on the season, the location and the sociodemographic features of the patient. Biography of Cao Cao
Cao Cao (About this pronunciation [tsʰǎu tsʰáu]; Chinese: 曹操; c. 155 – 15 March 220),courtesy name Mengde, was a Chinese warlord and the penultimate Chancellor of the Eastern Han dynasty who rose to great power in the final years of the dynasty. As one of the central figures of the Three Kingdoms period, he laid the foundations for what was to become the state of Cao Wei and ultimately the Jin dynasty, and was posthumously honoured as "Emperor Wu of Wei". He is often portrayed as a cruel and merciless tyrant in subsequent literature; however, he has also been praised as a brilliant ruler and military genius who treated his subordinates like his family. During the fall of the Eastern Han dynasty, Cao Cao was able to secure the most populated and prosperous cities of the central plains and northern China. Cao Cao had much success as the Han chancellor, but his handling of the Han Emperor Xian was heavily criticised and resulted in a continued and then escalated civil war. Opposition directly gathered around warlords Liu Bei and Sun Quan, whom Cao Cao was unable to quell. Cao Cao was also skilled in poetry, calligraphy and martial arts and wrote many war journals.
